The Baltimore Orioles designated Terrin Vavra for assignment Wednesday.Vavra was added back to the Orioles' 40-man roster in late July, but he was optioned back to Triple-A Norfolk a day later once Baltimore's trade-deadline acquisitions joined up with the club. The 27-year-old will now move back off the 40-man roster as the Orioles clear room for infielder Emmanuel Rivera, who was claimed off waivers from the Marlins. Vavra will now be subject to the waiver process, but if he clears, he would have the ability to elect free agency since he was previously outrighted off the 40-man roster last November. He's produced a .243/.350/.368 slash line with three home runs and two stolen bases over 178 plate appearances at Norfolk this season.

The Baltimore Orioles will call up Terrin Vavra from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.He'll join the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster as a replacement for infielder Connor Norby, who was sent to Miami along with outfielder Kyle Stowers in Tuesday's deal that shipped lefty Trevor Rogers to Baltimore. Unlike Norby, Vavra's upside is likely capped as a part-time player, at least as long as he's with the Orioles. The 27-year-old utility man slashed .269/.377/.423 with two home runs and two steals in 31 games at Triple-A. Vavra has made 14 starts at second base, five starts at third base, four starts at shortstop and two starts in left field for Norfolk.
