Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Shifted to 60-day injured list
The Arizona Diamondbacks transferred Bryce Jarvis (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day IL ahead of his start Tuesday in Cleveland. Jarvis landed on the IL last with a right elbow sprain, and while it's not clear whether he will need surgery, the move to the 60-day IL effectively ends his season.

Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Takes loss in extras
Bryce Jarvis (0-2) was the losing pitcher in Saturday's 5-4 extra-innings loss to Baltimore. He allowed one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one over one-plus innings.Arizona manager Torey Lovullo turned to Jarvis, the team's long arm out of the bullpen, to navigate extra frames. The lefty managed to extricate himself from a bases-loaded jam in the 10th inning thanks to double-play groundout but couldn't escape the 11th. Jordan Westburg reached down for the first pitch -- a slider at the bottom of the zone -- and got the end of the bat on the ball, which landed just inside the right-field line, plating the automatic runner for the Orioles' walk-off win. It was the fifth time in the last six games that Jarvis has allowed at least a run, and he has an 8.59 ERA over that span.

Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Logs three relief innings
Bryce Jarvis allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters over three relief innings in Saturday's 9-4 loss to the Rockies.Jarvis fulfilled his role as a multi-inning reliever, working the sixth through eighth innings. He allowed traffic in all three frames and was eventually stung for a two-run home run by Brenton Doyle during his final inning. Jarvis competed for a spot in the rotation during spring training but was bypassed in favor of Tommy Henry after Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) opened the season on the injured list. Henry was rocked Saturday before Jarvis entered the game, and that the two are currently on the same schedule could make it convenient for manager Torey Lovullo to make a change. Eventually, Rodriguez and Jordan Montgomery are expected to enter the rotation, which will obviate the need for either Jarvis or Henry as starters.

Diamondbacks' Bryce Jarvis: Remains in rotation mix
Bryce Jarvis is still in the mix for the fifth starter job, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.Gilbert re-examined the competition for the No. 5 job after the Arizona Diamondbacks optioned Slade Cecconi to minor-league camp Monday. Cecconi was seen as part of a three-man grouping that also includes Tommy Henry and Ryne Nelson, but Jarvis has been building up innings despite not making a Cactus League start. The right-hander was up to 3.1 innings his last time out, when Jarvis allowed two hits and a walk while striking out five without ceding a run. The conventional thought is that Nelson is the leader at this stage of spring.

The right-hander threw 47 pitches, 29 for strikes. "You make some middle-middle mistakes, you're going to get banged around," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "Hopefully he starts to command the baseball a little bit better and work through some innings without having that pitch count climb." If Jarvis, who came up through the minors as a starter, were to make the roster, it would be as a multi-inning reliever. Through two appearances, he's allowed eight runs on seven hits and three walks over two innings.
