Giants' Javier Lopez: Could see situational saves
Javier Lopez could be used in situational save opportunities against lefty-heavy lineups. He entered Friday's game in a save situation, walking the only batter he faced before being lifted in the eventual win over Arizona.Manager Bruce Bochy stated that he would be using a closer-by-committee approach with Santiago Casilla officially out as closer in San Francisco. Lopez is the least likely to see save opportunities given his profile as a left-handed specialist, but he could occassionally run into a save or two when the opposition has multiple lefties due up in the inning.

Giants' Javier Lopez: Records two outs in loss Monday
Javier Lopez retired the only two batters he faced Monday, striking one out in the process.Lopez hasn't been as effective as he has in years past (4.15 ERA), but he has strung together five consecutive scoreless innings over his last eight appearances. Given the nature of his LOOGY (lefty one-out guy) role, he provides little to no fantasy appeal.

Giants' Javier Lopez: Earns seventh hold Friday
Javier Lopez opened the ninth inning and retired the only batter he faced to earn his seventh hold of the season Friday. At age 38, Lopez is at the tail end of his career, as evidenced by his 4.63 ERA despite mainly facing left-handed batters. Manager Bruce Bochy still uses him as a LOOGY in late-inning situations, so he will get the occasional hold like he did Friday. Other than that, he doesn't hold much fantasy value.

Giants' Javier Lopez: Recovers after shaky start
Javier Lopez struck out the sole batter he faced in Saturday's victory over the Cubs. After a rough outing against the Dodgers in April where he was taken for two runs, Lopez has seemingly returned to his old form. In the month of May, he has yet to give up a hit and has only allowed one walk. As usual, his appearances have been one inning or less, for his primary value is the ability to shut down left-handed batters. The one surprise in Lopez's performance this season has been his effectiveness against right-handed batters. Traditionally, Lopez has an opponent batting average over .200 against righties, but they are 0-for-11 against the southpaw this season.

Giants' Javier Lopez: Strikes out only batter faced Tuesday
Javier Lopez was brought in to face one batter and recorded a strikeout in Tuesday's loss to the Diamondbacks. The left-handed specialist came in retired John Lamb on three pitches. Lopez will primarily be used in this role throughout the season. His ERA sits at 10.80, but the majority of the damage done to him this year has been when he has been asked to face more than one or two batters.

Giants' Javier Lopez: Healthy and ready for Opening Day
Javier Lopez has appeared in just four Cactus League games so far, posting a 4.50 ERA with two strikeouts.San Francisco already knows what they have in Lopez, so there is no need to overwork him during spring training. Despite the retirement of left-handed setup man, Jeremy Affeldt, Lopez will likely serve the same left-handed specialist role he has for the San Francisco Giants since joining the club in 2010. Even though he posted a sparkling 1.60 ERA in 2015, he simply doesn't log enough innings (39.1 IP in 2015) to be a valuable ratio enhancer in standard leagues.

Giants' Bochy will avoid using Santiago Casilla for a few days
San Francisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday he is going to stay away from closer Santiago Casilla for a few days due to general fatigue. Bochy said Casilla looked a little tired after the right-hander suffered his fourth blown save during a 6-5 loss to the Marlins on Wednesday. Casilla could not protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning, as he recorded no outs and allowed a three-run, walk-off homer to Justin Bour. Casilla allowed three hits in the inning. Prior to Wednesday's meltdown, Casilla had thrown nine straight scoreless outings. He allowed two hits and two walks, while striking out eight in 7 1/3 innings during that span. Bochy said if a save situation arises in the next few days, then he will play the matchups using relievers Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez.
