Marlins release injured 1B Jeff Baker
The Miami Marlins have added insult to injury to first baseman Jeff Baker, who is on the disabled list with an intercostal strain. They have released Baker, per MLB.com. Baker had just one hit in his last 17 at-bats before going down and has posted a weak slash line of .208/.288/.375 on the year.

The Miami Marlins have placed first baseman Jeff Baker on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 8, with a left intercostal strain, the Miami Herald has reported. Baker, who sustained the injury Tuesday, is batting .208 in just 72 at-bats this season.

Miami Marlins first baseman Jeff Baker left Tuesday's game against the Red Sox after one inning with left oblique pain, according to the Miami Herald. Baker struck out in his only at-bat before being replaced in the bottom of the second inning. Michael Morse moved from left field to first base, with Ichiro Suzuki entering the game in left. The Marlins have not provided any further updates on Baker's status.

Miami Marlins first baseman Jeff Baker put the icing on the cake in Saturday's win over the Mets. Baker, who was making just his fifth start of the season, launched a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning, putting his team up 9-5, which would be the final score. The home run was Baker's only hit of the game, and is his first longball since August 2014.

Miami Marlins first baseman Michael Morse and left fielder Christian Yelich were given the day off against left-hander Alex Wood and the Braves on Saturday. Jeff Baker will take over at first base and bat fifth, while Ichiro Suzuki will bat sixth and play left field in Yelich's absence. Morse has been held without a hit over his last 11 at-bats. He is hitting .214 on the year and is a .143 lifetime hitter against Wood. Marlins' Dee Gordon returns to lineup Sunday
Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon is back in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants. Gordon was held out of the last two games with a leg issue but was able to return Sunday as expected. He has hit .437/.461/.521 with 12 stolen bases in 119 at-bats. Jeff Baker, who drew the start for Gordon Saturday but had to come out with an oblique injury, is on the bench. The Marlins are a coin flip (-105) against the Giants Sunday.
