    Scott Kazmir among Indians' free agents

    In addition to starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, who was extended a qualifying offer, the Cleveland Indians have had several players declare free agency, including starting pitcher Scott Kazmir, relief pitcher Matt Albers, relief pitcher Rich Hill, catcher Kelly Shoppach and relief pitcher Joe Smith.

    Indians add five players to roster

    The Cleveland Indians made five promotions to the roster as part of September callups Sunday, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Added to the roster for the stretch run were right-handed pitchers Preston Guilmet and Blake Wood and lefty Nick Hagadone. The Tribe also purchased the contracts of catcher Kelly Shoppach and infielder Jose Ramirez from Columbus and Double-A Akron, respectively. The 20-year-old Ramirez hit .272 over 113 games for Akron this season with 38 stolen bases. All of the relievers spent some time up in the majors this season, except for Wood, who last pitched in the big leagues in 2011 with the Royals.

    Indians sign catcher Kelly Shoppach

    The Cleveland Indians have signed free-agent catcher Kelly Shoppach Friday. Shoppach will reunite with the club. He played in Cleveland from 2006 to 2009. Through 107 at-bats with the Seattle Mariners, Shoppach is hitting .196.

    Indians looking at Kelly Shoppach

    The Cleveland Indians are looking at free-agent catcher Kelly Shoppach, according to the Plain Dealer.  The team is looking for catching depth for September, and isn't comfortable with the catchers in their system. Shoppach is hitting .196/.293/.346 in 107 at-bats with the Mariners.

    Pirates release Kelly Shoppach

    The Pittsburgh Pirates released catcher Kelly Shoppach from Triple-A Indianapolis Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Shoppach went 5 for 26 with one double and two RBI for Indianapolis after hitting .196/.293/.346 with three home runs and nine RBI in 107 at-bats with the Mariners earlier in the season.

    Kelly Shoppach likely to join team in September

    Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle told MLB.com Tuesday the team hopes to bring recently signed catcher Kelly Shoppach up when the rosters expand Sept. 1. Shoppach was added on a minor league deal and was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis Monday.

    Kelly Shoppach exercises opt out, becomes free-agent

    Washington Nationals catcher Kelly Shoppach has exercised his out clause and will become a free-agent, according to ESPN. Shoppach was released by the Mariners in late June, and picked up by the Nationals. He did not appear in a major-league game with Washington. There aren't thought to be too many talented, available catchers on the market, and he could be a nice fall-back option for teams that don't want to give up prospects.

    Nationals sign Kelly Shoppach to minor-league deal

    The Washington Nationals signed catcher Kelly Shoppach to a minor-league contract Wednesday. Shoppach, who was released by the Seattle Mariners June 21, will report to Triple-A Syracuse.

    Kelly Shoppach placed on release waivers

    The Seattle Mariners placed Kelly Shoppach on unconditional release waivers Thursday, less than a week after he was designated for assignment.  Shoppach batted .196 with a .638 OPS in 107 at-bats for the Mariners.
