Nate Schierholtz was released by the Tigers on Monday, John Wagner of the Toledo Blade reports. After Jason Krizan was promoted to Triple-A, a roster spot needed to be cleared for him. Schierholtz ended up being the casualty after battling injuries all season and batting just .246 in 31 games with the Mud Hens.
