White Sox add Jim Thome to front office

The Chicago White Sox hired former designated hitter Jim Thome to serve as a special assistant to the general manager, the Chicago Tribune reports Tuesday.  Thome was a free agent this season after finishing last year with Baltimore. It seems as if his playing days are over. The 42-year-old played for the White Sox for four years from 2006 through 2009.

Twins not interested in Jim Thome

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Sunday that the Minnesota Twins are not expected to sign free-agent slugger Jim Thome.  "I would doubt there would be any outside solutions," manager Ron Gardenhire said of adding someone to the team's bench. The 42-year-old Thome remains a free agent and it looks like he'll start the 2013 season without a team. Thome played 58 games last year between Philadelphia and Baltimore and hit .252 with eight homers and 25 RBI through 163 at-bats.

    Gardenhire wants Thome reunion

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire told reporters Friday that he hopes the team brings back designated hitter Jim Thome, however, a snag in the deal could be Thome's desire for a major-league contract. Thome, who has played in 22 seasons during his big-league tenure, spent the 2012 campaign between Philadelphia and Baltimore.
