Larry Sanders will be waived by the Cavaliers on Wednesday, Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports.Sanders' return to professional basketball following a two-year hiatus didn't go as planned. He ended up taking part in just five games with the Cavaliers after being signed late in the season, averaging only 2.6 minutes per contest. Sanders wasn't much more impressive in his D-League appearances, so the Cavs will cut bait and address their lack of depth at center by instead signing the 7-foot-3 Walter Tavares. Sanders should get a look from teams ahead of training camp next season, although he likely won't be guaranteed a roster spot wherever he lands.

Cavaliers' Larry Sanders: Headed to D-League for two weeks
Larry Sanders is expected to spend the next two weeks with the D-League's Canton Charge, Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports.Sanders officially signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday, but since hasn't played in an NBA game since the 2014-15 season, he's going to need some time to get his conditioning in order and ease back into game shape. For that reason, Sanders is set to join the Charge as soon as Saturday in order to shake off the rust, before rejoining the Cavaliers in late March or early April. That would leave Sanders with roughly two or three weeks left in the regular season in order for him to establish himself a rotation option for the Cavaliers before the postseason begins. The Cavaliers likely wouldn't ask Sanders to take on more than 10-to-20 minutes per game behind starting center Tristan Thompson, but he'd at least potentially provide the team with an athletic shot blocker at the back end of the defense.
