Hornets' Jason Maxiell blocks seven shots against Wizards
Charlotte Hornets F Jason Maxiell blocked a career-high seven shots in a 94-87 win over the Wizards, Thursday. Maxiell eclipsed his season high in the first half, swatting five Wizard shots by halftime. He set his previous game-high of four two games earlier, against the Nuggets. Maxiell's previous career high was six blocked shots, which he last accomplished in December, 2012. 'You know an old guy like myself, it's not about how high you jump, it's about stopping the ball at the rim,'' Maxiell told Steve Reed of the Associated Press. Maxiell matched his season high of eight rebounds and added 11 points. The Hornets play next at the 76ers on Saturday.

Report: PF Jason Maxiell earns roster spot with Hornets
Steve Clifford has confirmed that power forward Jason Maxiell has secured a roster spot for the Charlotte Hornets, the Charlotte Observer is reporting. The 31-year-old Maxiell suffered through a poor 2013-14 season with Orlando, which waived him in July. But he had been a stalwart for Detroit in previous seasons.

Maxiell played just six minutes in the game, and made little impact on the box score, finishing with just one rebound. Maxiell began the season as a starter, but has been a nonfactor recently. He is averaging just 1.0 points per game in the month of January, while appearing in just eight of 12 games.

Orlando Magic forward Jason Maxiell scored just six points despite playing 43 minutes in an 87-81 loss to the Cavaliers Thursday. Maxiell shot just 1 of 6 from the field, and adding most of his points by going 4 of 6 at the free-throw line. He added just six rebounds as well, though he filled up the box score well with two assists, two steals and three blocks. Maxiell has seen his role increase in recent games due to an injury to Nikola Vucevic, but this is a very recent development. Maxiell averaged just 3.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in the month of December, while appearing in just 10 of 15 games in the month.

He scored one point on a free-throw attempt, and added just one rebound as well. Maxiell has appeared in 15 of the team's first 19 games, starting 11 of those. He is averaging just 4.9 points and 2.9 rebounds per game for the season.

Orlando Magic forward Jason Maxiell failed to make much of an impact despite earning the start at power forward in Tuesday's opening night loss to the Pacers.Maxiell logged 26 minutes of game action and missed all five of his field goal attempts. Andrew Nicholson came in for him in the first quarter and outplayed the 30-year-old. Maxiell grabbed five rebounds, one steal and two blocked shots as he was held without a point in a 97-87 defeat. Nicholson led the team with 18 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Jason Maxiell likely to don goggles this season
Orlando Magic forward Jason Maxiell, who signed a two-year deal in the offseason, will be the second player in Orlando history to wear no. 54. The first was Horace Grant. Much like Grant, Maxiell will "most likely" wear protective goggles for his own safety throughout the season after having retina surgery, according to OrlandoPinstripedPost.com.
