Spurs' Tim Duncan: Will retire from NBA

Tim Duncan announced Monday that he will retire after 19 years in the NBA.Duncan calls it quits after a 19-year NBA career where he averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. He made 15 All-NBA teams, 15 All-Defensive teams - the most all time - and was also a 15-time All-Star. The former No.1 overall pick out of Wake Forest also joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only two players in NBA history to record at least 26,000 points, 15,000 rebounds and 3,000 blocks in a career, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game. With Duncan no longer in the San Antonio Spurs' rotation, it opens the door for LaMarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol to dominate the frontcourt minutes even more this coming season.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: 'Leaning strongly' toward retirement

Tim Duncan is said to be "leaning strongly" toward announcing his retirement, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.Duncan has reportedly told those close to him that he's planning on making an announcement regarding his future in the coming weeks, and it's believed he plans on stepping away from the game after a spectacular 19-year career. The San Antonio Spurs seemingly prepared for a potential Duncan departure by signing Pau Gasol to a two-year, $30 million contract over the weekend, and it's uncertain if the 40-year-old would be willing to accept a backup role behind Gasol. Duncan already exercised his $5.6 player option for the 2016-17 season, so he'll be due that salary regardless of what he ends up deciding. He saw his production dwindle to career-worst levels last season, as he averaged just 8.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks across 25.2 minutes per game in his 61 appearances.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Exercises player option, unsure about returning

Tim Duncan exercised his player option worth $5.6 million for next season Monday, but remains unsure whether he will return for 20th season, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.According to Wojnarowski's report, Duncan is giving serious consideration to playing despite being 40 years old. Duncan's averages took a dip last season, as he posted just 8.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, and it's likely they'd dip even more next season along with his minutes. However, if healthy, Duncan still can serve as a great interior defender and capable offensive talent around the rim.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Breaks out for 19 points in season-ending loss

Tim Duncan collected 19 points (7-14 FG, 5-6 FT), five rebounds and a block over 34 minutes in Thursday's 113-99 season-ending Game 6 loss to the Thunder. After totaling just 17 points over the first five games of the series, Duncan was finally able to post his first double-digit scoring game of the postseason. It also marked the first time he took double-digit shot attempts in the playoffs, and the only instance he received over 30 minutes of playing time. Given his struggles at times this season, and his minimal playoff impact, the 40-year-old heads into the offseason with more questions than ever about his future.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Held scoreless in Sunday's Game 4 for first time in 249 career playoff games

Tim Duncan had no points and grabbed three rebounds across 12 minutes during the San Antonio Spurs' 111-97 loss to the Thunder in Sunday's Game 4.Duncan didn't attempt a single shot and committed four fouls in his limited minutes, which resulted in him failing to score for the first time in 249 career playoff games. Given how extensively the Thunder opted to pair Steven Adams and Enes Kanter together in Game 4, it was somewhat surprising that Duncan was barely used. Coach Gregg Popovich has instead been calling David West's number during crunch time, and Duncan has been glued to the bench over the last two contests, seeing a combined 26 minutes.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Struggles in Monday's crucial game 2 loss to Thunder

Tim Duncan finished with just two points (1-8 FG) nine rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes during Monday's Game 2 loss to the Thunder.Although he did lead the team with nine rebounds, Duncan was never able to make his presence felt offensively. The five-time champion connected on just one of his eight shots and failed to get to the free throw line for the first time this postseason. It's good to see him being active on the glass, but San Antonio will need him to be more aggressive on the offensive end if they hope to make another deep playoff run.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Grabs team-high nine rebounds in Game 2

Tim Duncan had three points (0-1 FG, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block in 26 minutes during the San Antonio Spurs' 94-68 win versus the Grizzlies on Tuesday.Duncan has hauled in 20 rebounds through the first two playoff games while averaging five points, two dimes, 1.5 blocks, and one steal in 24 minutes per game. The Spurs have demolished what's left of the Grizzlies' injury-ravaged roster, and Duncan is unlikely to play heavy minutes in this series given the blowout nature of the contests. However, it's nice to see him grabbing boards and throwing textbook outlet passes to start up San Antonio's fast break, and the soon-to-be 40-year-old center is still anchoring the middle well for the best defensive club in basketball.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Will rest against Mavs

Tim Duncan will be held out for Wednesday's game against the Mavericks for rest purposes, Paul Garcia of Project San Antonio Spurs reports. The Spurs have locked up the second seed in the Western Conference playoffs and are looking to keep Duncan spry heading into what could be another long postseason run. With Duncan out, along with fellow frontcourt players LaMarcus Aldridge and David West, look for Boris Diaw, Matt Bonner, and Boban Marjanovic to play extended minutes.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Plays 34 minutes Tuesday

Tim Duncan had 12 points (5-14 FG, 2-4 FT), nine rebounds, three assists, and one block across 34 minutes during the San Antonio Spurs' 102-98 win versus the Thunder on Tuesday.Duncan returned to the starting five Tuesday after receiving the night off for rest in Sunday's loss to the Warriors. The soon-to-be 40-year-old has played 34 minutes in both of his last two starts, which marks the first time he has seen that heavy of a load since he played a season-high 35 minutes back on Nov. 2 against the Knicks. The Spurs have been locked into the second seed in the Western Conference for quite a while, and Duncan is likely to be rested in Wednesday's regular season finale against the Mavericks.

Spurs' Tim Duncan: Will sit Sunday's game against Golden State

Tim Duncan (rest) will sit out Sunday's game against the Warriors, Paul Garcia of Project San Antonio Spurs reports.Duncan will sit Sunday after arguably his strongest game of the season on Friday against the Nuggets, in which he posted 21 points and seven rebounds. As the Spurs get ready for the postseason, it is not surprising to see head coach Greg Popovich rest his veteran players, even in a high-caliber game such as the one on Sunday, which could spell the end of the Warrior's regular season wins record. David West will get the start, with Boban Marjanovic also in line to pick up a few more minutes. Duncan's next chance to return will be against the Thunder on Tuesday.
