    Kevin Garnett: Plans to retire

Kevin Garnett has decided to retire, Kent Youngblood of the Star Tribune reports.Garnett averaged a career-low 14.6 minutes per game last season, not to even mention that he only suited up for 38 games. At 40 years old, recurring knee issues likely propelled his decision to retire after an illustrious 21 seasons in the league. His likely Hall of Fame career resulted in 15 All-Star appearances and currently ranks him third all time in regular season minutes played with 50,418.

Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett: Nearing buyout with Timberwolves

Kevin Garnett is in advanced discussions with the Minnesota Timberwolves in regards to a buyout of his current contract, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports.Garnett is on the books for $8 million for the upcoming season, but relations between the two sides appear to have soured, so a buyout is now the likely course of action. Once completed, Garnett could sign with another contender, although it wouldn't be surprising if he opted to retire from the league after playing 21 seasons split between the Timberwolves and Celtics. More information should become available in the coming few days, but if all holds true, the 40-year-old Garnett won't be with the Timberwolves at the start of training camp.

Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett: Still no decision on playing in 2016-17

Kevin Garnett (knee) still has yet to inform the Minnesota Timberwolves if he'll return for the 2016-17 season, NBA.com's Steve Aschburner reports. "I can only assume I'll be hearing from [Garnett] in the next three weeks," Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said.Garnett is under contract for $8 million for the upcoming season, but after an ineffective and injury-riddled 2015-16 campaign that saw him appear in only 38 games, it's possible he'll call it quits. While the 40-year-old still provides value on the defensive end and as a mentor in the locker room to the Wolves' slew of young big men, Garnett's chronic knee pain might prevent him from playing at 100 percent health again. Former head coach Sam Mitchell regularly deployed Garnett as a starter last season when he was able to play, but he was only on the court for limited minutes, ceding most of the time at power forward or center to Gorgui Dieng and Karl-Anthony Towns. Expect that to be the case again under new coach Tim Thibodeau if Garnett does elect to return in 2016-17.

    Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett: Mulling retirement

Kevin Garnett (knee) has yet to make a decision regarding his status for the 2016-17 season.Garnett last played on Jan. 13 before knee soreness kept him out the remainder of the year. It sounds like he currently wants to play another season, but is unsure if his body will be able to hold up. Regardless, given his mentoring role with the young Minnesota Timberwolves' squad he does not hold any real fantasy value. The team is not in a position where they need a decision any time soon, so Garnett will likely take all the time he needs prior to training camp to decide on what his future will hold.

Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett: May be done for season

Coach Sam Mitchell told Sirius XM NBA Radio on Tuesday that Kevin Garnett (knee) could be at risk of missing the remainder of the season. "It's a day-to-day, week-to-week thing...I'm not even going to promise that you're going to see him [again this season]."A bout of right knee soreness has prevented Garnett from playing since Jan. 23, and the cagey veteran hasn't seemed to show much in the way of progress yet, as he hasn't been practicing with the team. The Minnesota Timberwolves have been evaluating him on a game-by-game basis for the duration of his absence, but now that Garnett has missed the last 15 contests, it appears safe to conclude he's no longer merely "day-to-day." With the team well out of playoff contention in the Western Conference and keen on developing its young players over the final month and a half of the season, there's little incentive for the 39-year-old Garnett to rush back to the court.
