Justin Herbert was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot. As I mentioned in my weekly SportsLine article, the Los Angeles Chargers are being cautious and smart with this injury. There is a re-injury risk or risk that he'll have to play through pain during the season.
Most importantly, Herbert should be ready for Week 1. This could likely be a pain management issue for Herbert during the season, an issue many NFL players face in-season. I'm betting on Herbert to still play at a high level this season.
I feel the market has overreacted to this injury and Herbert's ADP is currently 140 (down 5.1 spots in the last seven days). While the data shows a slight dip, I have seen many drafts where Herbert slides into the 150s ADP.
Especially if I have already drafted WR Ladd McConkey or WR Josh Palmer, I will jump on a depressed Herbert price to stack the Chargers. If people in my draft room let Herbert slide into the 150s and I need another quarterback, I'll even consider drafting Herbert at a huge value and back-stack him with WR D.J. Chark
I think the market has also overreacted to the Chargers likely being more run-heavy under head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. We also could get a massive discount on an elite quarterback and playcaller this season. I wrote about Herbert being priced too low in June when his ADP was 132.
I'm buying the dip and grabbing more Herbert shares now. See the rest of 2024 Best Ball top 250 rankings on SportsLine.
