The Chargers placed Square (undisclosed) on the active/non-football injury list Sunday, per the league's official transactions report.
The nature and severity of Square's current injury remain unclear, but he'll need to receive medical clearance before returning to practice. Despite playing through a back injury in 2019, Square appeared in all 16 games and logged 27 tackles to go with two passes defensed.
