Long (knee) was placed on the preseason PUP list Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
After a short retirement, Long returned to the NFL in March, when he signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs. The 32-year-old was expected to contend for a starting role at guard, but he suffered a knee injury during a June practice that has shut down the three-time Pro Bowler for at least the start of training camp. He'll be eligible to return from the PUP list whenever the Chiefs deem him healthy.
