Rush will open the season as the primary backup to Dak Prescott for the Cowboys.
Trey Lance also made the 53-man roster, but his five-interception performance in the team's final preseason game ended any thought that he could bump Rush aside for the No. 2 job. Rush has been a reliable backup the last three seasons, seeing action in 21 games and completing 60.9 percent of his passes with a 6.9 YPA and an 8:5 TD:INT. Given that Prescott doesn't yet have a contract extension however, should he suffer a serious injury and the season go off the rails, it might be Lance and not Rush who fills in as the Cowboys evaluate their options for 2025 and beyond.
