The Cowboys claimed Grier off waivers Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Dallas is an excellent landing spot for Grier after he lost a backup quarterback battle to P.J. Walker in Carolina. The Cowboys kept Cooper Rush on the initial 53-man roster behind Dak Prescott, though multiple reporters suggested the team would look outside the organization for its in-season backup quarterback. While Grier won't automatically be the choice to fill that role, he should at least get a chance to compete in practice with Rush for No. 2 duties. The 2019 third-round pick is 26 years old.
