Will Grier: Elects to retire
Grier announced Wednesday that he will retire from the NFL, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
In conjunction with the QB's decision to hang up his cleats, the Panthers placed Grier on the reserve/retired list Wednesday. Now that he's no longer in the mix, the Panthers currently roster veteran backup Kenny Pickett and undrafted rookie Haynes King behind starting signal caller Bryce Young.

Panthers' Will Grier: Finds gig with Panthers
Grier is signing with Carolina on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Grier will sign on as the Panthers' third-string QB, behind Bryce Young and Kenny Pickett, providing the team with positional depth in advance of the 2026 NFL Draft. A 2019 third-round pick, Grier hasn't logged any regular-season action since he made two appearances as a rookie with Carolina.

Will Grier: Cut by Dallas
The Cowboys released Grier on Thursday.
Grier inked a reserve/future contract with the team last month but is now out after Dallas signed Sam Howell as the team's QB3 this week. The 30-year-old Grier hasn't appeared in a regular-season NFL game since his 2019 rookie season with Carolina.

Cowboys' Will Grier: Gets future deal with Dallas
The Cowboys signed Grier to a reserve/future contract Monday.
Grier spent the entire 2025 season on the Cowboys' practice squad after failing to beat out Joe Milton for the QB2 job behind Dak Prescott. Grier last saw regular-season action in 2019 with the Panthers (his rookie year), when he completed 28 of 52 passes for 228 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions in two games. He'll be on the Cowboys' 90-man roster when the offseason begins, which gives him the opportunity to participate in OTAs and minicamp.

Grier was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad Wednesday.
Grier will remain in Dallas as a member of the team's practice unit after he was released Tuesday. The quarterback spent the final stretch of the 2024 campaign with the Cowboys' practice squad, and he will operate as an extra depth option behind Dak Prescott and Joe Milton in 2025.

Cowboys' Will Grier: Serving as emergency QB on Sunday
Grier (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Commanders.
The quarterback was signed off the practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's game. To enter the contest, Grier will need starter Trey Lance and backup Cooper Rush to be injured, sick or ejected. The 2019 third-round pick of the Panthers last appeared in an NFL regular-season game during his rookie year.
