Dolphins' Tim Boyle: Replaces injured Thompson in loss
Boyle replaced Skylar Thompson (rib) with 9:25 remaining in the third quarter of Sunday's 24-3 loss to the Seahawks and completed seven of 13 passes for 79 yards while adding one rush for six yards.
The journeyman's experience came in handy during a forgettable afternoon for the Dolphins in the Pacific Northwest, as Boyle was at least serviceable in relief of Thompson. Thompson had started the game in place of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion), and with the former now dealing with a notable injury as well, Boyle could suit up again in the Dolphins' next game Week 4 against the Titans on Sept. 30. However, Boyle may not be the Dolphins' top choice to start if Thompson isn't available, as Miami signed Tyler Huntley off Baltimore's practice squad earlier in the week and could turn to him, if needed. Boyle had signed with Miami's practice squad in late August, so his greater familiarity with head coach Mike McDaniel's scheme may have been a factor in him suiting up Week 3 ahead of Huntley, who was inactive as the emergency third quarterback.
