Jets quarterback Geno Smith put an end to his offensive slump Week 14, leading New York to a 37-27 win against the Raiders. Smith completed 16 of 25 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while rushing for another 50 yards and one touchdown.
Smith came into Sunday's game without a touchdown pass in five straight games and was looking to bounce back after being benched last week against the Dolphins. Smith didn't get off to a much better start Sunday. He led New York on a field-goal drive to open the game, but he missed Kellen Winslow on a 23-yard touchdown pass because of a bad throw. He then threw an interception on the team's second drive, which came one play after Oakland dropped an interception.
But Smith turned his luck around on the next drive, hitting Jeremy Kerley for a 25-yard touchdown. Smith then added an 8-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Out of shotgun formation, Smith executed a perfect read-option, ripping the football out of the belly of his running back at the last second and rushing left untouched into the end zone for the score.
Perhaps one of Smith's biggest plays in the second half came on a 3rd-and-5 with 10:01 remaining. Smith scrambled 32 yards to the Oakland 20-yard line to keep the driving alive. Two plays later, Chris Ivory had a 15-yard touchdown run.
The Jets are back in action Week 15 at Carolina.
