Jets quarterback Geno Smith was benched in the fourth quarter Week 11 at Buffalo after his fourth turnover gave Buffalo a 34-7 lead. Smith was replaced by Matt Simms with 12:55 remaining in the game.
It was a rough day for Smith from the get go. On the first drive of the game, he had to leave for a play after taking a big hit to the midsection. Smith was on the ground for a few minutes before walking off under his own power. Smith would fumble on his first play back, but he recovered his own fumble.
Unfortunately, Smith's first turnover came on a fumble late in the second quarter, which led to a 3-yard touchdown run by Bills fullback Frank Summers. Smith was then picked off on the next drive, which would be the first of three interceptions.
Smith's next interception came with 3:59 left in the third quarter, and on the next drive Smith would throw his third interception, which was returned by Da'Norris Searcy for a 32-yard touchdown. Smith was trying to hit Santonio Holmes on a screen pass. Smith would get one more three-and-out drive before Simms took over.
Smith, who threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 3 win against Buffalo, completed 8 of 23 passes for 103 yards. He rushed for zero yards. The Jets are back in action Week 12 at Baltimore.
