Released by San Diego on Monday, the 32-year-old Jones seems to know that the 49ers arguably have the weakest group of wide receivers in the NFL. He's from San Jose and went to college at San Jose State, making it a strong fit from a personal perspective. While borderline roster material for most teams, Jones could potentially serve as the No. 2 wideout if he were to sign with San Francisco. It's unclear if the Niners have any interest, as head coach Chip Kelly may prefer to evaluate younger players while rebuilding the team.
