Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was diagnosed with a mild ankle sprain, a league source told ESPN. The Jets did not officially provide any update on his injury.

Smith rolled his right ankle on a scramble in the second half of Friday's preseason opener against the Lions. X-rays came back negative and he is not expected to miss significant time. The Jets will host Jacksonville on Aug. 17.
