The Texans placed tight end Ryan Griffin (knee) on the injured reserve-designated to return list Tuesday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Griffin was injured during the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He will not be allowed to appear in a game for eight weeks, so he will be sidelined at least through the Texans' Week 9 bye. Griffin started at tight end Sunday, and the Texans have yet to announce whether C.J. Fiedorowicz or Garrett Graham will replace him in the lineup in Week 2.
