Week Five was, in a word, explosive.

We had 26 quarterbacks post north of 30 points, 10 backs who went over 30 and five receivers who caught more than 200 yards worth of passes. And who says that only the NFL has become a passing league?

The wide receivers were led by a quartet of talented pass catchers: A.J. Jenkins, Kendall Wright, Royce Pollard and the great Robert Woods, who hauled in 14 balls for 255 yards and two scores in the Trojan win over a hapless Arizona squad. Woods are Wright are currently in a dead heat through five weeks, with each boasting over 112 Fantasy points to date.

However, it would be unwise to discount some of the higher-rated receivers back on Draft Day. Ryan Broyles is currently ninth nationally, while Michael Floyd is just outside the top 20 and Justin Blackmon isn't far behind, even with a bye this past Saturday.

In other words, the cream will rise to the top. Just be a little patient.

Other Saturday Superlatives

• Michigan's Vincent Smith ran for a score, caught a score and threw one in Michigan's throttling of Minnesota. The Gophers may have been the most disinterested Big Ten team I've ever seen.

• How about that shootout in Los Angeles? Matt Barkley throws for 468 yards and posts five scores while Arizona's Nick Foles accounts for 425 yards and four passing touchdowns of his own.

• West Virginia freshman back Dustin Garrison got his first taste of significant collegiate carries against Bowling Green on Saturday. All he did was break Pat White's WVU single-game rushing record while posting 291 yards and two scores. Garrison was impressive in the loss to LSU, and now he looks like the next Slaton/Devine.

• Christine Michael's 32 carries for 230 yards and three scores was great news ... except to the owners of Cyrus Gray. Michael is officially back from a broken leg that ended his 2010 campaign, and the Aggies have officially rejoined the ranks of by-committee running back attacks.

• Nice to see Western Michigan's Alex Carder, one of the nation's most underrated signal callers, post huge numbers in the win over UConn. 37-51 for 479 yards, five touchdowns and zero picks is as good as it gets.

• Robert Griffin now has 18 touchdown passes against only one interception, but it's this lone pick in the closing moments against Kansas State that may be enough to keep this stud from the Heisman ceremony in December.

• Speaking of K-State, are we believing in Collin Klein yet?

• Through five weeks, Wisconsin's Montee Ball is the nation's top Fantasy back, already with an impressive 14 touchdowns. And if the first week of Big Ten play is any indication, Ball will have no problem staying on this roll.

• Sticking in Madison, the Badgers also boast the 12th-best Fantasy receiver in Nick Toon, and the No. 7 Fantasy quarterback in Russell Wilson. Oh, and tight end Jacob Pedersen is fourth among tight ends.

• Don't look now but our old friend Case Keenum is climbing the quarterback leaderboard. And despite the fears of many (myself included) about a three-yard-and-cloud-of-dust Michigan offense, Denard Robinson is once again the top BCS quarterback.

• Andrew Luck was absolutely on fire as he toyed with UCLA on Saturday night.

• Oregon State's Sean Mannion threw it 66 times in the loss to Arizona State while the Beavers only ran it 14 times. Who needs offensive balance? Teams that aren't 0-4 on the season.

• Ok ... Giovani Bernard is the real deal.

• Texas freshman WR Jaxon Shipley (6-141-1 against Iowa State) appears to be picking up this college football thing just fine.

Oklahoma vs. Texas: Can the Red River Rivalry be enough to trip up the Sooners?
Ohio State at Nebraska: Two traditional powers licking their wounds. One will be out of their respective Big Ten divisional race on Saturday night.
Auburn at Arkansas: Can the Tigers keep up in this one?
Texas A&M at Texas Tech: Can the Aggies muster enough after two consecutive heartbreakers?
Michigan at Northwestern: Here's hoping Dan Persa is 100 percent for this evening affair.
