The Chargers placed Square (undisclosed) on the active/non-football injury list Sunday, per the league's official transactions report. The nature and severity of Square's current injury remain unclear, but he'll need to receive medical clearance before returning to practice. Despite playing through a back injury in 2019, Square appeared in all 16 games and logged 27 tackles to go with two passes defensed.

Square recorded 27 tackles (15 solo) and two passes defended in the 2019 season. Square continues to be a valuable rotation piece along the defensive line, playing at least 300 defensive snaps for the fourth consecutive season. While the seventh-year pro wasn't able to replicate his 2018 breakout numbers, he's proven to be a reliable option for the Chargers over the past three seasons and could garner a similarly cheap, one-year deal like last offseason.

Square (back) is active for Sunday's game versus the Packers. Square was added to the injury report Saturday with the back issue, but he's good to go for Sunday's contest. The 30-year-old will likely receive his third straight start at defensive tackle with regular starters Justin Jones (shoulder) and Brandon Mebane (knee) sidelined.

Square re-signed with the Chargers on Monday. Square appeared in 16 games for the Chargers last season, notching 31 tackles (16 solo), three sacks and three defended passes. He projects to play his usual rotational role on the defensive line in 2019.

Square has re-signed with the Chargers on a two-year deal, ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports. Square finished the 2016 season with 2.5 sacks while playing just 11 games. He'll provide the Chargers with some useful depth along the defensive line.
