  New Orleans placed Swearinger on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, Jeff Duncan of The Athletic reports. Swearinger joins a host of Saints players -- including their entire RB room -- who are ineligible to play Sunday after landing on the COVID-19 list. With Marcus Williams (ankle) and C.J. Gardner-Johnson (COVID-19) also out, New Orleans' secondary depth will be thin against Carolina.

  Swearinger (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup against the Bears. Swearinger won't be needed at free safety for a road trip to the Windy City, as Marcus Williams and P.J. Williams are both available to play. The South Carolina product has made three appearances during his first full season with New Orleans, tallying an average of 17 defensive snaps per game in those contests.

  Swearinger inked a one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Saints on Sunday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports. Swearinger was a late signing Week 15 by the Saints, and the team elected to keep him around. In five games between the Raiders and Saints, the 28-year-old produced 22 tackles (15 solo) and two pass breakups. He'll provide depth at safety for the Saints heading into the 2020 campaign.

  Swearinger signed a contract with the Raiders on Friday, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports. Swearinger's signing comes on the heels of news that Oakland's starting strong safety, Karl Joseph, may have suffered a significant injury in Thursday night's win over the Chargers. If that is indeed the case, Swearinger could be thrust into a crucial role immediately for the Raiders alongside fellow safeties Erik Harris and Lamarcus Joyner. Swearinger last played for the Cardinals earlier this season before being released in late September.

  The Cardinals released Swearinger on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The Cardinals showcased a notoriously bad pass defense through the first four games, allowing 10 touchdowns (ranked 30th) and 271 passing yards per game (22nd). They needed to make a change, and Swearinger appears to be the casualty after playing all but one defensive snap during the first quarter of the season. This also may illustrate Arizona's confidence in rookie fifth-round pick Deionte Thompson's ability to start at strong safety alongside Budda Baker.
