• Taylor Bertolet: Deal with Chargers runs out

  Bertolet (quadriceps) had his practice-squad contract with the Chargers expire Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. Bertolet joined the Chargers' practice squad Oct. 6 and was elevated in Week 5 and 7 to fill in for injured starting kicker Dustin Hopkins (hamstring). The 30-year-old Bertolet went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made all six of his extra-point tries over these two contests, though he picked up a quadriceps injury and was placed on the practice squad injured list Nov. 3. He then finished the season on this list, and he'll now look to land a new contract ahead of the 2023 campaign.

  Bertolet landed on the Chargers' practice squad IR after tweaking his quadriceps during practice Wednesday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. While the exact severity of Bertolet's injury is still unclear, he won't be able to play until at least the Chargers' Week 13 matchup against the Raiders. The 30-year-old made all three of his field-goal attempts and went 6-for-6 on point-after tries while filling in for injured starting kicker Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) in Weeks 5 and 7. If he comes off the injured list before the end of the season, Bertolet will be eligible for one more elevation from the Chargers' practice squad.

• Taylor Bertolet: Heads to injured list

  The Chargers placed Bertolet (undisclosed) on the practice squad injured list Thursday. Bertolet played in two of the Chargers' last three contests while Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) missed time with separate quadriceps and hamstring injuries. However, the practice-squad kicker is now also dealing with what appears to be a significant injury coming off the team's bye in Week 8, though the exact nature of this issue is still unknown. With Hopkins still sidelined and Bertolet unable to play for at least the next four games, Cameron Dicker should operate as the Chargers' primary kicker after being signed to the practice squad Thursday as well.

  Bertolet reverted to the Chargers' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Bertolet filled in for Dustin Hopkins (quadriceps) once again, making all three of his PATs against the Seahawks on Sunday. With the Chargers going into a bye week, it's possible Hopkins will be healed in time for Week 9 against the Falcons. However, if he isn't, Bertolet will likely be elevated to the active roster once again.

  Bertolet was elevated off the Chargers' practice squad Saturday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. Dustin Hopkins (quadriceps) is set to miss a bit of time after heroically carrying the Chargers to a win Monday, setting the stage for Bertolet to kick Sunday against Seattle. The rookie kicker filled in for Hopkins back in Week 5, converting all three of his field-goal attempts and three extra-point tries.
