McCoy retired from the NFL on Monday, Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com reports. The 14-year veteran quarterback is officially calling it a career after stints with the Browns, 49ers, Commanders, Giants and Cardinals. McCoy threw for 7,975 yards, 34 touchdowns and 32 interceptions across his 56 regular-season appearances. Now that McCoy has retired from the NFL, he's expected to land a high-profile broadcasting job that will be announced later today, per Schrager.

Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said McCoy will see some snaps in Friday's preseason opener against the Broncos, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Gannon wouldn't divulge exactly how he plans to split playing time among his quarterback group, which is still without Kyler Murray (knee), but McCoy will presumably get the start Friday and play limited snaps. The veteran underwent offseason surgery to address an elbow issue, but he's been a full participant in training camp and will likely head into Week 1 as the Cardinals' starting quarterback.

McCoy (concussion) won't play in Sunday's season finale against Atlanta, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports. David Blough will get his second straight start for the Cardinals while McCoy remains in the concussion protocol. The 36-year-old is signed with Arizona through 2023 on a contract that includes a 60 percent guarantee of his $3.75 million base salary for next season, but it's nonetheless possible the team explores new options for the backup quarterback role, especially if head coach Kliff Kingsbury is no longer around.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that the Cardinals are hoping McCoy gets cleared through the concussion protocols and is able to start Sunday's game in Atlanta, Bo Brack of GoPHNX.com reports. After Kyler Murray tore his ACL in Week 14, McCoy assumed quarterback duties for the Cardinals, but he departed Week 15's game at Denver with a concussion and was inactive this past Sunday against the Buccaneers. McCoy showed some progress late last week by practicing in a limited fashion Friday, so the next step will be maintaining or increasing his activity level once Arizona gets back on the field Wednesday. If he makes his way through the protocols ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. kickoff, McCoy will push Trace McSorley back to a reserve role.

Coach Kliff Kingsbury confirmed after Sunday's 24-15 loss to the Broncos that McCoy is in concussion protocol, Jose M. Romero of AZCentral Sports reports. McCoy was ruled out of the game due to a concussion, and he will need to pass the NFL's five-step concussion protocol before he can return to game action. Doing so before the Buccaneers come to town in Week 16 won't be easy, so Trace McSorley could be in line to make his first start of the season if McCoy joins Kyler Murray (knee) on the sideline.
