  • Vikings' Jordan Addison: Good to go in preseason opener

Addison (thumb) caught his only target for eight yards in Saturday's 13-10 preseason win over the Giants.

The fourth-year wideout jammed his thumb early in training camp, but Addison was out there with the starters to begin the Vikings' preseason opener and hauled in his only look from new starting quarterback Kyler Murray. Addison has yet to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a season and has seen his numbers steadily decline since a strong rookie campaign in 2023, but he could be headed for a rebound with Murray under center and Justin Jefferson still on hand to command attention from opposition secondaries.

  • Vikings' Jordan Mason: Just three totes in preseason opener

Mason carried the ball three times for 17 yards in Saturday's 13-10 preseason win over the Giants.

The Vikings' starters on offense played just one possession, with both Mason and Aaron Jones getting snaps on a drive that ended with a 35-yard Will Reichard field goal. Mason was productive in his first season with Minnesota in 2025, rushing for 758 yards and six TDs on 159 carries in 16 regular-season games, and he seems set to work in a timeshare with Jones once again. The 31-year-old Jones still offers more big-play potential and utility as a receiver, but Mason should see the majority of the high-value touches near the goal line.

  • Vikings' Aaron Jones: Plays just one series Saturday

Jones carried the ball three times for 27 yards in Saturday's 13-10 preseason win over the Giants. He failed to catch his only target.

The Vikings' starters on offense played just one possession, with both Jones and Jordan Mason getting snaps on a drive that ended in a 35-yard Will Reichard field goal. Jones dealt with injuries once again in 2025, playing 12 regular-season games and producing 747 scrimmage yards on 160 touches with three total TDs, two rushing and one receiving. A timeshare between the two backs appears likely once again as Minnesota attempts to keep the 31-year-old Jones on the field, but he still appears to have enough juice to pop for some big plays and make a bigger impact as a receiver, while Mason gets more work between the tackles and at the goal line.

  • Vikings' Caleb Tiernan: Injures ankle Saturday

Tiernan suffered a left ankle injury during Saturday's preseason win against the Giants, Ben Goessling of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Tiernan struggled a bit in his first NFL game action after being drafted in the third round of April's NFL Draft. The Northwestern product also picked up an ankle injury, so it wasn't the preseason debut he had envisioned. Coach Kevin O'Connell didn't elaborate on the extent of Tiernan's injury, and it remains to be seen if he'll be able to play in Minnesota's next preseason contest, which is slated for next Saturday against the Ravens.

  • Vikings' Jakobe Thomas: Managing back issue

Thomas has been dealing with back stiffness and hasn't fully practiced for about a week, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Thomas was taken in the third round of April's NFL Draft and is expected to provide key depth in the Vikings' secondary this season. His current injury is particularly notable because fellow safeties Josh Metellus (shoulder) and Jay Ward (concussion) are both currently working through injuries of their own. However, there's no indication at this point that Thomas is at risk of not being ready for Week 1 of the regular season.

  • Vikings' Max Brosmer: Slated for imaging on thumb

Brosmer exited Saturday's preseason win over the Giants due to a right thumb injury, which he's expected to get imaging for, Ben Goessling of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Brosmer suffered the injury when his hand got hit on his final throw of the third quarter. Coach Kevin O'Connell explained after the game that the team "wanted to be smart" about addressing the issue despite Brosmer wanting to re-enter the contest. O'Connell also said that Brosmer will get imaging on the thumb, and results of those tests should provide clarity about whether the QB will be able to play in Minnesota's next preseason game, which is set for next Saturday versus Baltimore.

  • Vikings' Jamal Adams: Diagnosed with right knee injury

Head coach Kevin O'Connell said after Saturday's 13-10 preseason win over the Giants that Adams has been diagnosed with a right knee injury, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

It looked like a non-contact knee injury for Adams, who sustained the injury during the first quarter of Saturday's exhibition game. O'Connell relayed to reporters that initial imaging on Adams' right knee "didn't look good," but the Vikings will have a better sense of the severity of the injury once the veteran defender undergoes more tests. It's a brutal injury for Adams, who inked a one-year deal with the Vikings in late July to fortify the team's depth at linebacker.

  • Vikings' Jamal Adams: Carted off with injury

Adams (undisclosed) was carted to the locker room during the second quarter of Saturday's preseason game against the Giants, Ben Goessling of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

Adams appeared to suffer the injury early in the second quarter on the same play that Jaxson Dart found Malachi Fields for a 15-yard touchdown pass. Adams was initially evaluated by medical staff in the blue medical tent but has since been carted to the locker room, where he'll undergo further tests to determine the nature and severity of his injury.

  • Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Wants to remain with Vikings

McCarthy told reporters Wednesday that he wants to remain in Minnesota despite losing the Vikings' quarterback competition to Kyler Murray, Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports.

"This is the place I want to be," McCarthy said. "And I love every single person in this building. I love the state. I love the fanbase. And I'm going to continue to just do whatever I can for this team and this organization." Murray was named the team's Week 1 starter Tuesday and veteran backup Carson Wentz remains on the roster, leading to speculation that the Vikings could try to trade McCarthy. Minnesota's 2024 first-round draft pick missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury, and McCarthy then threw for 1,632 yards with an 11:12 TD:INT across 10 starts during the 2025 regular season, prompting Minnesota to bring in an alternative option in Murray.

  • Vikings' Justin Jefferson: Building rapport with Murray

Jefferson and newly named starting quarterback Kyler Murray have been starting to click at practice, Will Ragatz of Bring Me The Sports reports.

Jefferson will be working with a new starting quarterback for the fourth season in a row after Minnesota named offseason addition Kyler Murray as their starter Tuesday. The two players connected on a handful of big plays at practice Wednesday, including a gain of roughly 35 yards on a deep post. Jefferson is coming off a down year during which he caught 84 of 141 targets for 1,048 yards and two touchdowns, both of which were career lows, over 17 regular-season contests while working with J.J. McCarthy, Carson Wentz and Max Brosmer at quarterback. Now with the expectation of more stability with Murray under center, the 27-year-old superstar wide receiver is looking to get back on track. Murray also seems to understand the most important aspect of quarterbacking the Vikings: get Jefferson the ball as often as possible.
