Ben Tate will work out for the 49ers on Tuesday, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.Tate has worked out for the Cowboys, Lions and Chiefs at various times this year, which follows a 2014 season in which he played for the Browns, Vikings and Steelers. Although the veteran has yet to play this season, Reggie Bush's knee injury suffered Sunday opens the door for a running back to sign with the 49ers. However, given Tate's recent unsuccessful workouts, it remains to be seen whether he'll be formally offered San Francisco's potentially vacant roster spot.

Ben Tate has a workout scheduled with the Chiefs on Tuesday, The Kansas City Star reports.Tate's workout comes in wake of Jamaal Charles' torn ACL suffered Sunday, leaving the Chiefs' running back corp in need of help. After spending the first three years of his career with the Texans, Tate played for the Browns, Vikings and Steelers over the course of last season, including the playoffs. While he obviously was unable to stick with any of those organizations, Tate's experience makes him a veteran worth consideration from the Chiefs, explaining Tuesday's workout.

Report: Ben Tate, Daniel Thomas to work out for Lions
Two veteran free agent running backs will work out for the Detroit Lions on Tuesday, per a report from NFL.com. Ben Tate, who has rushed for 2,325 yards in five years with three teams, will fly to Detroit for a tryout, sources say. The 26-year-old Tate played for Minnesota and Cleveland last year. Daniel Thomas, the 27-year-old running back, will also work out for the Lions. Thomas has played all four years of his career with Miami, rushing for 1,480 yards.

Steelers running backs do little in relief of Le'Veon Bell Saturday
Pittsburgh Steelers running backs Josh Harris and Ben Tate were able to find little running room in Saturday's 30-17 loss to Baltimore. Harris ran nine times for 25 yards while Tate had five carries for 19 yards. As a team, Pittsburgh managed just 68 yards on 19 carries in relief of star running back Le'Veon Bell, who missed Saturday's game with a knee injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said it's unrealistic to expect a lot from newly-signed running back Ben Tate in Saturday's playoff game against the Ravens. “I don’t know how you could come in in a couple of days and learn a new offense,” Roethlisberger told ESPN.com. “I think if we can put together a specific package, a few runs here, a few passes there, I think he could help us if we need him to.” If starter Le'Veon Bell (knee) can't play, rookie running back Josh Harris would start and be spelled by rookie Dri Archer and Tate.
