Stephen Bowen announced his retirement Wednesday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.Bowen's career ends after most recently playing for the Jets, finishing his one year in New York with eight tackles as an off-the-bench player. Bowen spent his first five years in the NFL as a disruptive rotational player in Dallas before earning a three-year stint as a starter in Washington. He had a fine career.

Jets sign defensive end Stephen Bowen
The New York Jets signed defensive end Stephen Bowen to a contract, the team announced on Tuesday. Bowen has spent his entire career in the NFC East with the Cowboys and Redskins. He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and signed with Dallas. After five years with the Cowboys, he signed with the Redskins and spent four seasons before being released this offseason. In his nine-year career, Bowen has totaled 168 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks.

Redskins announce pair of roster moves Friday
The Washington Redskins announced Friday the release of defensive end Stephen Bowen and the re-signing of tackle Tom Compton. Bowen played eight games in 2014, totaling 11 tackles. In four seasons with the Redskins, he totaled 96 tackles with seven sacks. By releasing Bowen, the Redskins will save $5.52 million in cap space, according to the Washington Post. Compton has spent all three years with Washington, starting nine of 16 games in 2014.

Redskins DE Stephen Bowen a candidate for release
It would not come as much of a surprise if the Washington Redskins released defensive end Stephen Bowen, thus saving $5.5 million, reports the Washington Post. Bowen, 30, is entering the final year of his deal after making just 11 tackles in eight games last season. Bowen is scheduled to make a base salary of $5.4 million, plus $1.5 million of his original signing bonus and a $1 million restructuring bonus from last year.

Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Hatcher has missed practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Hatcher has missed Washington's last two games with a knee injury. Trent Williams (shoulder), Chris Baker (toe/elbow), Gabe Miller (ankle), Keenan Robinson (knee) and Stephen Bowen (ankle/illness) are all listed as questionable for the game. Robert Griffin III (shoulder), Bashaud Breeland (thigh), Barry Coefield (shoulder), Tom Compton (knee), Will Compton (shoulder), Jackson Jeffcoat (calf), Kory Lichtensteiger (stinger) and Darrel Young (ankle) are all considered probable.
