Rob Housler: Released by New England
Rob Housler was released by the Patriots on Wednesday after failing a physical, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.According to Reiss, Housler pulled a hamstring during OTAs. His release leaves only James O'Shaughnessy and Matthew Lengel to square off for the No. 3 tight end job behind Rob Gronkowski and offseason pickup Dwayne Allen. However, once Housler returns to full strength, a return to New England isn't out of the question.

The New England Patriots have signed Rob Housler to a reserve contract for 2017, ESPN's Mike Reiss reports.With Martellus Bennett, Matt Lengel and Michael Williams all slated to become free agents this offseason, Housler provides the Patriots' organization with some TE depth behind Rob Gronkowski in advance of the 2017 campaign.
