Akeem Ayers has been suspended for the first four weeks of the 2018 season, Field Yates of ESPN reports.Ayers is currently an unrestricted free agent after finishing the 2017 season with the Giants. It's unclear exactly what his suspension is for, but his absence for the first month of the season may make it more difficult for him to catch on with a team for the start of the 2018 campaign.

Colts' Akeem Ayers: Signed by Colts
Akeem Ayers was signed by the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, Adam Caplan of ESPN.com reports.Ayers was cut by the Rams on Saturday after playing all 16 games last season, recording 47 tackles and 0.5 sacks. The Colts' starting linebackers are in flux for Week 1, so Ayers could play a role off the bench, granted he can learn the playbook in time. As the season progresses, look for him to compete with fellow veterans Robert Mathis and Trent Cole for reps.

Akeem Ayers: Surprisingly waived by Rams
Akeem Ayers was waived by the Rams, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.This is a surprising move as it was thought Ayers would be a starter at outside linebacker. The five-year veteran started 11 games for the Rams in 2015, but Los Angeles lets him go, saving themselves $3.3 million in the process. At this point, who be the third linebacker alongside Alec Ogletree and Mark Barron is not known. The options remaining on the roster are Josh Forrest, Bryce Hager, Nic Grigsby and Cory LIttleton.

The 25-year-old spent four seasons with the Titans prior to playing for the Patriots. For his career Ayers has 252 total tackles, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles.

The St. Louis Rams hosted a pair of defensive players on Thursday. According to ESPN.com, former Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley and former Titans and Patriots linebacker Akeem Ayers met with the Rams. The Rams could use the depth along the interior defensive line with the organization cutting Kendall Langford in a salary cap move. In four seasons with the Lions, Fairley totaled 98 tackles and 13.5 sacks. Ayers has been linked to the Rams for a while. Traded to the Patriots from the Titans mid-season, Ayers recorded 20 tackles, four sacks and one interception in New England.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (ankle) and linebackers Akeem Ayers (knee) and Dont'a Hightower (shoulder) are active and set to play in the Super Bowl Sunday against the Seahawks, the team announced. All three were considered probable and in no real danger of missing the game Sunday. Brady threw for 4,109 yards with 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2014. Patriots center Bryan Stork is also active after being upgraded to probable for the game Saturday. The game is currently pick'em between New England and Seattle Sunday.

The New England Patriots will be at nearly full strength for Sunday’s Super Bowl as the following players have been listed as probable: Tom Brady (ankle), Dont’a Hightower (shoulder), Chris Jones (elbow), Akeem Ayers (knee), Darrelle Revis (non-injury-related) and Sealver Siliga (foot). All except Brady were limited participants in practice Friday. The only question mark is center Bryan Stork, who is questionable with a knee injury and was limited in practice Friday.
