Eagles' Ron Brooks: Cut by Eagles
Ron Brooks was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles on Wednesday, Dave Zangaro of CSN Philly reports. This is a tough break for Brooks, who looked like he was on the cusp of carving a meaningful role with the defense this season. Despite his many highs early in camp, Brooks has had a riddled injury history that has limited his availability during his NFL tenure. After cutting Brooks , it's conceivable that the Eagles may make a run at fellow corner Joe Haden, who was released by the Browns on Wednesday.

Eagles' Ron Brooks: In mix at cornerback
Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Monday that Ron Brooks (quadriceps) is "obviously [the team's] nickel defender, nickel corner," Dave Zangaro of CSN Philadelphia reports.Brooks was on the field for the first day of training Monday, seemingly fully recovered from a ruptured quad tendon that required surgery and cost him the final 10 games of 2016. Prior to suffering the injury, he had established himself as a starter at the position, and assuming his health holds up in camp, it looks like he'll have the inside edge on the nickel role heading into the regular season.

Eagles' Ron Brooks: Will require surgery
Ron Brooks suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon during Sunday's game against the Vikings and will consequently require season-ending surgery, The Philadelphia Inquirer's Les Bowen reports.Brooks went down after attempting to make a tackle during the first quarter Sunday. With his injury requiring surgery, Brooks is expected to land on injured reserve soon, opening a roster spot for the Philadelphia Eagles. After signing with Philadelphia this offseason, Brooks' familiarity with coordinator Jim Schwartz's defensive scheme, as well as fellow cornerback Leodis McKelvin's previous hamstring injury, resulted in Brooks starting five out of six games thus far. While McKelvin's return to health should help make up for Brooks' absence, C.J. Smith or Terrence Brooks could be elevated into expanded roles within the Eagles' secondary going forward.

Eagles' Ron Brooks: Will compete for starting job
Ron Brooks (neck) will compete with Norman Carroll for the starting job opposite newly-acquired Leodis McKelvin, NJ.com reports.Brooks ended the 2015 season on IR after dealing with neck, shoulder and head injuries throughout the year. However, the other leading candidate for the job, Norman Carroll (ankle), finished 2015 on IR as well. While 2015 second-round pick Eric Rowe also figures to vie for the starting role, offseason reviews suggest he isn't a realistic candidate to run with the first unit in 2016. Ultimately, as both Brooks and Carroll enter training camp following an offseason of rehab, the top spot on the depth chart could conceivably come down to the last man standing should either of them suffer a setback in their recoveries prior to Week 1.
