Report: WR Jerrel Jernigan won't return to Giants
The New York Giants have no interest in re-signing wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan, according to a report from the New York Daily News. Taken by the Giants in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft, Jernigan has had only one semi-productive season, which was when he caught 29 passes for 329 yards and two touchdowns. In 2014, Jernigan only caught six passes for 40 yards. Jernigan will be a free agent when the new league year begins on March 10.

Giants send two players to IR, promote two
The New York Giants announced Tuesday they placed cornerback Walter Thurmond (pectoral) and wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan (foot) on season-ending injured reserve. Thurmond had surgery Tuesday for a torn pectoral muscle and will need 3-4 months recovery. Jernigan has a mid-foot sprain, but he will not need surgery. There is no timetable for his recovery. The Giants filled the openings on the roster by promoting wide receiver Julian Talley and linebacker Dan Fox from the practice squad.

Jerrel Jernigan the odd man out in New York?
Despite a nice three-week finish to last season, New York Giants receiver Jerrel Jernigan is expected to compete with Rueben Randle for a regular spot in the offense this summer because the Giants drafted Odell Beckham with a first-round pick. However, the Newark Star-Ledger believes Jernigan will lose that battle to Randle since Randle is the more polished and bigger receiver. It could mean Jernigan will have to settle for a backup role this season.

Addition of Odell Beckham changes Giants' receiving corps
The New York Giants view rookie receiver Odell Beckham as a contributor right away, reports ESPN. "He's a dynamic receiver, dynamic punt returner and a dynamic kickoff returner," general manager Jerry Reese said. "You're getting a guy that can score touchdowns in three different ways for you. There's no way we would pass him up." Beckham is expected to replace the departed Hakeem Nicks, and his addition allows the Giants to keep Victor Cruz as a slot receiver with Beckham and Rueben Randle playing outside."We're talking about the quarterback needing help, and this guy is a weapon," Reese said of Eli Manning and Co. "We need a weapon on the outside. Victor is more of an inside receiver. Victor can't play on the outside. We have Rueben Randle, Jerrel Jernigan and we got Mario Manningham back, so we're trying to get the quarterback some weapons. You need weapons in this league. We think this guy is a weapon."

Giants' hiring of McAdoo could make passing game re-emerge
The New York Giants' hiring of Bob McAdoo as offensive coordinator signals a big change in how the offense will operate. ESPN's Dan Graziano had a great breakdown of what to expect from the new scheme in New York. McAdoo is expected to run a West Coast offense with zone-read principles. It means fewer deep passes and a more controlled, methodical approach but it also means letting your key receivers make plays after the quarterback goes through his reads quickly. That should pop open the door for Victor Cruz to be a factor again, make Rueben Randle a decent regular in the offense and potentially make Jerrel Jernigan a key contributor (this is assuming Hakeem Nicks isn't back with the team). All of that, in turn, would help prop up Eli Manning's stats. It's something to watch this offseason as pretty much every Giants player will wind up being a sleeper in drafts this summer.
