Texans' Brandon Weeden: Securing backup job
Brandon Weeden has had a good training camp and appears to be the primary backup to starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.Weeden has met expectations on the field during training camp, but in an ideal Houston Texans world, his main contribution will come as an experienced hand behind Watson. "Weed is a good voice in the room," Texans quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan said. "He has experience, he's very helpful with Deshaun. He's gone out, he's done what we asked him. He has natural arm talent, he knows the offense, which helps to kind of get plugged in and really function with the offense." Weeden spent time with the Texans during each of the last three seasons, so his knowledge of the offense gives him a leg up on Joe Webb and Stephen Morris, the other quarterbacks in camp.

Brandon Weeden: Joining Texans again
Brandon Weeden is signing with the Texans, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.Weeden spent part of 2015 and all of 2016 with the Texans, but he was released at the end of the preseason last year. He later caught on with the Titans as their No. 3 quarterback, ultimately failing to take a snap for a second straight year. The 2012 first-round pick owns a 6-19 record as a starter, with a 57.9 completion percentage, 6.7 yards per attempt, 31 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. He'll compete with Taylor Heinecke for the backup job in Houston, though it's quite possible the team adds more help while Deshaun Watson recovers from a torn ACL.

Texans' Brandon Weeden: Will serve as backup Saturday
Brandon Weeden will back up quarterback Brock Osweiler for Saturday's wild-card playoff game against Oakland. The Houston Texans have declared Tom Savage out for the playoff game, so Weeden becomes active for just the third time this season. No knock on Weeden, but Osweiler would have to be hurt or play awfully for Houston coach Bill O'Brien to make a switch.

It could be the intent was to give Savage, who missed the entire 2015 season, a longer look. We'll see if the same quarterback pattern holds in preseason Week 2.
