Ricardo Lockette: Expected to retire
Ricardo Lockette (neck) is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL in a news conference Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.In Week 8 of last season, Lockette sustained a serious neck injury on an illegal hit while fielding a punt against the Cowboys. Season-ending surgery was quickly ordered up, and he spent the next week-plus in a Dallas hospital before returning to Seattle. Although he didn't exactly develop into a regular receiving threat in parts of four seasons with the Seahawks -- 22 receptions for 451 yards and four touchdowns in 34 career games -- he boasts a Super Bowl ring from the 2013 campaign.

Ricardo Lockette (neck) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.Lockette underwent neck surgery after Week 8's game against the Cowboys, so this move seemed like a formality. There's no telling if the 29-year-old will be cleared to play football again next season as the Seattle Seahawks have been extra precautious with neck injuries in the past, but that decision likely won't be made until later the following year.

Ricardo Lockette had neck surgery on Monday afternoon, John Boyle of the Seattle Seahawks' official site reports.After completion of the procedure, the Seahawks reported that Lockette's neurological signs were are all positive. While he's expected to remain in a Dallas hospital for a few more days, he could be "up and moving around" as soon as Tuesday. Nevertheless, the hit that forced him out of Sunday's win against the Cowboys is season-ending.

Seahawks' Ricardo Lockette: Out for season
Ricardo Lockette will undergo neck surgery and miss the remainder of this season after being injured in Sunday's game against the Cowboys, seattlepi.com reports.Lockette took a gruesome, illegal hit while covering a punt Sunday, which required him to be stretchered off the field and rushed to a local hospital. Thankfully, Lockette has full motion and feeling in all his extremities, but he'll still require surgery to stabilize ligaments in his neck. While it's unclear if Lockette's career is in jeopardy following Sunday's incident, he definitely will not play again this season, according to coach Pete Carroll.

The Seattle Seahawks re-signed wide receiver Ricardo Lockette on Wednesday, the team announced. Lockette was an exclusive-rights free agent and has played mostly on special teams. In 2014, he caught 11 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Bevell: Lockette 'could have been stronger through football' on INT
The talk around the water cooler Monday morning and on pretty much every sports show -- whether on television, radio or the Internet -- is about the Seattle Seahawks' final play call that resulted in Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler picking off quarterback Russell Wilson's pass in the end zone and clinching a 28-24 win in Super Bowl 49 for New England. It seems the consensus is that Seattle should have leaned on star running back Marshawn Lynch to run the football for the potential go-ahead score. Still, the Seahawks stand by the play call after the loss, with offensive coordinator Darren Bevell adding, “It was a great look, the look we wanted to get." However, Bevell also seemed to put some of the onus on Ricardo Lockette, who was the intended receiver on the play. Bevell did mention a couple of times after the game that Lockette "could have been stronger through the ball," per 710 ESPN Seattle. “(Butler) drove hard on the ball,” Bevell said, per the Tacoma News Tribune. “Our guys have to go hard to the ball, too."

Seahawks' Bevell questions Ricardo Lockette's effort on final play
Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell questioned wideout Ricardo Lockette's effort on the team's final play, according to the Seattle Times. Bevell said he felt Lockette could have been more aggressive going after the ball on the interception. Lockette ran a slant route to the end zone, but the ball was intercepted by Patriots corner Malcolm Butler. The two players collided on the play, but Butler came up with the ball. The decision to pass the ball on the one yard line has been questioned by many. Bevell said he called the play, though head coach Pete Carroll took responsibility for the call in post-game interviews. Lockette finished with three receptions for 59 yards during the contest.

WRs Ricardo Lockette, Kevin Norwood move up depth chart
With rookie wideout Paul Richardson out for the rest of the playoffs with a torn ACL, the Seattle Seahawks will use Ricardo Lockette and rookie Kevin Norwood in addition to starters Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Coach Pete Carroll said Norwood, a fourth-round pick, must step up.“We totally trust that he knows what’s going on and can make good plays,” Carroll said, per the paper. “They’re a little different in style but we think he’s going to be a very effective player. We just haven’t seen a lot of him so you would know that. But we’re OK about that. We’re going to definitely miss Paul because he just continues to show, he’s made a lot of big plays and big catches in tough situations. We’ll miss him in that.” Seattle is a 7.5-point home favorite over the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.

Seahawks backup receivers get some action Week 14
The Seattle Seahawks backup receivers managed to get some work Week 14 against the Eagles. Jermaine Kearse finished second on the team in receiving, gaining 37 yards on three catches. Paul Richardson had two receptions, picking up 27 yards. Kevin Norwood also had two catches. He finished with 22 yards. Ricardo Lockette hauled in one pass, gaining 19 yards. Tight end Tony Moeaki caught one pass, picking up 15 yards. Fullback Will Tukuafu also had one catch, gaining 4 yards. Luke Willson gained one yard on his only reception. The group will look for more Week 15 against the 49ers.
