Clyde Gates makes impression before getting hurt
With Jeremy Kerley limited to two catches for 19 yards, New York Jets wide receiver Clyde Gates made a surprising contribution out of the slot Week 6 against the Steelers, leading the team with a season-high five catches for 36 yards. His seven targets were second only to Stephen Hill's eight. Gates didn't make it to the end of the game, though, leaving early in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury. He'll no doubt be looking to build off this performance if he's able to play Week 7 against the Patriots, but right now, his status is unknown.

Hill, however, will be sidelined for at least that game and Holmes longer, according to the New York Post. Ryan did say that Jeremy Kerley and Clyde Gates were next up to start if Hill and Holmes are indeed out, Newsday is reporting. He also threw Ryan Spadola into the mix. Kerley and Gates have contributed strongly as backups this year with a combined 15 catches for 218 yards. The New York Jets boast just four receiving touchdowns in 2013.
