Dolphins' Daniel Thomas: Gains 30 yards in loss
Daniel Thomas rushed for 30 yards on seven carries as the Miami Dolphins were crushed by Dallas, 41-14, on Friday.Thomas is battling for a roster spot with several other backs on the Miami roster. Arian Foster, Jay Ajayi, and Kenyan Drake (hamstring) are guaranteed spots, which would seem to leave either Thomas or Isaiah Pead fighting for one spot should Miami only keep four running backs after the final cut.

Dolphins' Daniel Thomas: Contributes 47 yards of offense in Friday victory
Daniel Thomas gained 40 yards on 10 carries and totaled seven yards on two receptions in Friday's 27-10 preseason victory over the Giants. The veteran tailback made a solid return to the team he spent 2011-2014 with, likely benefiting from fresh legs after not having played in the NFL in 2015. Thomas remains a long shot to make the final roster given the ample competition at the running back position, but Friday's effort certainly served as a point in his favor.

Dolphins' Daniel Thomas: Lands in Miami
The Miami Dolphins and Daniel Thomas (knee) agreed to a contract Thursday, Rand Getlin of NFL Network reports. After dabbling in but ultimately losing out on C.J. Anderson and Chris Johnson, the Dolphins are following a cheap path to production out of the backfield with the additions of Thomas and Isaiah Pead on Thursday. Thomas himself remained unemployed last season following his release from the Bears near the tail end of the preseason slate. In four previous campaigns with the Dolphins, he didn't exactly turn heads, averaging 3.6 YPC, hauling in 55 passes, and scoring 13 touchdowns in 52 games. If he's still with the team out of training camp, he'll more than likely play second fiddle, at best, to sophomore RB Jay Ajayi.
