Report: Cardinals placing John Abraham on IR

The Arizona Cardinals are placing linebacker John Abraham on injured reserve due to ongoing concussion issues, ESPN.com reports Friday. Abraham had left the team last week after suffering from memory loss due to concussions, but returned to the team shortly after. Unfortunately, he was never able to get through the concussion protocol, and the team has apparently opted to end his season rather than allow him to try and return.

Cardinals DST carries more risk than last year

The Arizona Cardinals DST finished sixth in Fantasy points last season while ranking first against the run. This is not that defense. Arizona lost defensive tackle Darnell Dockett (torn ACL) and linebackers Karlos Dansby (free agency) and Daryl Washington (suspension), among others. That trio accounted for 14 sacks, six interceptions, two touchdowns and a fumble recovery. Linebacker John Abraham (11.5 sacks) reported late to camp following a DUI arrest and at age 36 is unlikely to repeat his 2013 production. The Cardinals are counting on 34-year-old Larry Foote and unproven Kevin Minter at linebacker. Safety Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is not 100 percent yet. Arizona did add corner Antonio Cromartie to team with superstar Patrick Peterson. Monday night, Arizona hosts an efficient Chargers' team that gave up the eighth-fewest Fantasy points (7.3 per game) to DSTs last year. Consider the Cardinals DST a low-end starting option at best.

Coach: John Abraham will remain a starter

Just a day after reporting to training camp, Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians told the Arizona Republic that linebacker John Abraham will remain a starter. Abraham won't play in the team's second preseason or work in pads until next week."We'll see what kind of condition he is [in] and get him physically ready," Arians said. "Yeah, he's going to be our starting 'Will' linebacker. There's no doubt about that. He's never been out of those plans."

Cardinals expect John Abraham in 5-6 days

Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he expects Pro Bowl outside linebacker John Abraham to report to camp within five to six days, reports the Arizona Republic. Abraham was arrested last month in the Atlanta area and charged with DUI. Given that it's his second known DUI arrest since coming into the league, Abraham could be looking at a two- to four-game suspension, the paper said. He led Arizona with 11.5 sacks last year.

Report: John Abraham arrested for DUI in June

Arizona Cardinals linebacker John Abraham was arrested for DUI in late June, the Arizona Republic reports. Abraham was detained, questioned and charged with multiple accounts after the incident, which took place in suburban Atlanta. He has been excused from the beginning of camp due to personal reasons.
