Michael Bowie: Waived by Giants
The Giants waived Michael Bowie on Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Star-Ledger reports. The transaction comes just days after Bowie was arrested on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. Giants general manager Jerry Reese noted that the NFL is still gathering more information regarding the incident that prompted Bowie's arrest, so if the offensive tackle is ultimately cleared of any discipline from the league, New York wouldn't necessarily close the door on re-signing him.

Browns OL Michael Bowie itching to compete for starting spot
Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Michael Bowie is not required to report to training camp until the end of July. But never mind that - he's heading out after the last Independence Day firework explodes in the sky. Bowie is itching to get started. He missed all of last season due to a shoulder injury after starting for Seattle on its Super Bowl title team in 2013. He is seeking to stay in tip-top shape in an attempt to land a starting spot on a Cleveland line that is the strength of the team. "It's up to them to decide who is the best five," Bowie told the team website. "All I can do is take care of my business. Hopefully I can get a shot. That's what I'm working for." Bowie participated fully in the offseason program, working mostly with the second team at right tackle. That will likely be the spot at which he competes for a starting job. Incumbent Mitchell Schwartz has not performed particularly well there and Mike Pettine has vowed there will be competition all over the field in camp.

Michael Bowie, Justin Britt vying for starting job
With Breno Giacomini having left the Seattle Seahawks for the Jets, Seattle will have a training camp competition at right tackle. Michael Bowie and rookie Justin Britt are the top candidates for the job. The Seattle Times gives Bowie the edge because he started nine games last year, including at guard in the playoff win over the Saints. Still, the paper suggests Seattle might use a rotation at right tackle, akin to what it did at left guard last year.

Seahawks could have O-line surprise in Super Bowl
After Seahawks rookie Michael Bowie was a surprise starter at left guard in the divisional playoffs against the Saints, the rookie was inactive for the NFC Championship Game with James Carpenter and Paul McQuistan sharing the spot, reports the News Tribune of Tacoma, Wash. Coach Pete Carroll said competition at the spot remains open. "It's one of those deals that it's so close, the competition is so keen that it can go either way," Carroll said, per the paper. "And we thought the experience would help us and didn't put too much pressure on Michael in that instance. But he's going to be very competitive as we move forward. Here goes another couple weeks, and we'll see what happens."
