Kendall Gaskins: Released by Niners
Kendall Gaskins was released by the 49ers on Saturday, CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco reports.Even with Carlos Hyde (concussion) now injured, Gaskins didn't have a shot to stick on the final roster. Mike Davis, DuJuan Harris and Kelvin Taylor are competing for either one or two roster spots behind Hyde and Shaun Draughn (back).

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Signs two-year deal
Kendall Gaskins has signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.Gaskins was on the 49ers' practice squad in 2014 and at the beginning of 2015 before being pulled up to San Francisco's active roster around midseason. Playing in the final nine games last year, he recorded 38 yards on 16 rushes and 69 yards on eight receptions, but his major contribution was on special teams, where he played 35 percent of the team's snaps. Now that he's been signed once again, the third-year running back will be looking to make the roster, but it seems unlikely that he becomes relevant in any fantasy format unless injuries force him into a larger role on offense.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Sees first NFL action in 2015
Kendall Gaskins was promoted from the practice squad in 2015 and saw limited action, finishing the year with 16 carries for 38 yards while adding 69 yards on eight catches. After starting the last two seasons on the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad, Gaskins finally made his professional debut when Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush went down with season-ending injuries. His 2.4 YPC confirm the organization's belief that he isn't more than a roster depth piece. He is under contract through the end of the next season, so he will likely end up on the practice squad if he can survive the training camp roster cuts.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Limited to 12 yards against Detroit
Kendall Gaskins carried the ball twice during Sunday's loss to the Lions, tallying 12 yards. It's hard to put a finger on Gaskins' role in the offense. After totaling seven carries in Week 9 against Atlanta, Gaskins didn't touch the ball again until Week 15, where he showed some receiving ability by hauling in six catches. Then Gaskins followed up that performance by not seeing a pass come his way on Sunday. Gaskins has yet to top 52 total yards in a game or score, so his value was already minimal. A lack of any sort of defined role solidifies him as an untouchable in the free agency pool.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Could start at running back Sunday
Either Kendall Gaskins or DuJuan Harris will likely start Sunday's game against the Lions with Shaun Draughn (knee) ruled out, the San Jose Mercury News reports.Gaskins has carried the ball for the San Francisco 49ers just 14 times since being brought up from the practice squad in late October, but that's 14 more than Harris, who was just added to the roster this week. Gaskins did make an impact in the passing game last week with six receptions and 52 receiving yards, so he will likely at least serve as the running back on passing downs. If he gets the early-down and/or goalline work too, he could be a sneaky Week 16 option against a Lions defense that has allowed a league-high 18 rushing touchdowns.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Catches six passes for 52 yards in relief of Shaun Draughn
Kendall Gaskins had just two carries Sunday, but caught six of seven targets for 52 yards in the 24-14 loss to the Bengals.Gaskins took over for starter Shaun Draughn, who left the game with a knee injury and did not return. Meanwhile, Travaris Cadet was also in the mix after Draughn left, finishing with four catches on six targets for 32 yards. Gaskins is bigger than Cadet, however, and was probably the reason why he was in the game when FB Bruce Miller scored a one-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. If Draughn misses any time, expect Gaskins and Cadet to form some sort of backfield committee next week at Detroit.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Rushes for 20 yards against Atlanta
Kendall Gaskins rushed for 20 yards on seven carries in Sunday's win over Atlanta. With San Francisco 49ers backs dropping like flies, there was some thought that Gaskins would come into Sunday's game as the team's defacto workhorse. Instead, Gaskins touched the ball just once before the fourth quarter as San Francisco's coaching staff kept with the hot hand in Shaun Draughn. With so many new faces, it's difficult to predict how the 49ers' rushing attack will look in a few weeks, but it seems likely that San Francisco will stick with Draughn, with Gaskins and Pierre Thomas filling in as backups.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Starting Sunday
Kendall Gaskins is starting Sunday against the Falcons, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. With Carlos Hyde (foot) and Mike Davis (hand) out, Gaskins will get the first backfield touches for the niners ahead of newly-signed Pierre Thomas and Shaun Draughn. There was talk earlier in the week that Gaskins could get the goal-line work, but it looks like he's heading for a bigger role than that Sunday.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Could get goal-line work
Kendall Gaskins is a strong candidate for any potential goal-line work in Sunday's game against the Falcons, according to Joe Fann of the San Francisco 49ers' official website.Though it's still unclear how the workload will be divided between Gaskins, Pierre Thomas and Shaun Draughn, it does make sense that the 240-pound Gaskins would be the first option for short-yardage and goal-line carries. Of course, with the San Francisco offense plagued by both injuries and ineffectiveness, it won't be too surprising if the team doesn't actually provide Gaskins with any opportunities at the goal line.

49ers' Kendall Gaskins: Makes debut in St. Louis
Kendall Gaskins carried the ball for six yards on five carries in Sunday's loss to St. Louis. He added two catches on three targets for 17 yards.Gaskins was forced into action following injuries to Carlos Hyde, Reggie Bush and Mike Davis. Though he failed to impress, he should see a few more opportunities in the coming weeks as Hyde deals with a stress fracture in his foot and the team deals with the potential season-long loss of Bush, who the San Francisco 49ers fear tore his ACL.
