Lions' Jared Goff: Does just enough in OT win during opener

Jared Goff completed 26 of 39 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-30 overtime win over the Saints. He added two yards on two carries. Both of Goff's TD passes went to Amon-Ra St. Brown, while Jahmyr Gibbs scored on a pair of one-yard runs. The Detroit Lions' offense may have gotten a little narrower in the offseason when David Montgomery left for the Texans, but that shouldn't affect the QB's production after he threw for at least 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns in each of the last three seasons. Goff will now shift his focus to the Bills for a Week 2 road game.

Lions' Jared Goff: Guides 99-yard drive in final camp practice

Jared Goff closed out training camp on a high note Thursday, notably leading the Detroit Lions on a 99-yard touchdown drive during the first series of practice, Tim Twentyman of the team's official site reports.Head coach Dan Campbell elected to put the offense in a tough spot to begin the final session of training camp, but Goff didn't wilt from the challenge. He found Jameson Williams for a 22-yard gain early on the drive to give the offense some breathing room, then completed five more pass attempts before an incompletion set up a fourth-and-goal from the five-yard line. Goff evaded some pressure on fourth down and connected with a tightly covered Williams in the back of the end zone to wrap up the drive. The 31-year-old quarterback threw for another touchdown later in the session, finding top target Amon-Ra St. Brown for a 16-yard score on the second-to-last drive of the day. While his lack of rushing ability will likely prevent him from emerging as a truly elite fantasy option in 2026, Goff is about as steady of a performer as it gets at the quarterback position, as he's turned in three straight seasons of at least 4,500 passing yards and 30 touchdown passes. The Detroit defense is still looking suspect heading into the upcoming season -- especially in the secondary -- which could result in the offense being involved in frequent shootouts that would enhance the fantasy value of Goff and the team's other skill-position players.

Lions' Jared Goff: Won't play against Commanders on Saturday

Jared Goff will be rested for Saturday's preseason game against the Commanders, Tim Twentyman of the Detroit Lions' official site reports.Joshua Dobbs will get the start and is expected to split the game evenly with Luke Altmyer. Goff is healthy and locked in atop Detroit's quarterback depth chart, while the organization is using the preseason to evaluate Dobbs and Altmyer as backup options following Teddy Bridgewater's retirement.

Lions' Jared Goff: Sits out preseason opener

Jared Goff didn't suit up for Thursday's 16-14 preseason loss to the Bengals.Goff sat out the preseason opener, as did Detroit's other key starters. Luke Altmyer and the recently signed Joshua Dobbs split quarterback duties Thursday. Altmyer and Dobbs will likely continue to get most of the preseason playing time as the Detroit Lions sort out their depth chart behind Goff in the wake of veteran backup Teddy Bridgewater's retirement. The Lions will continue preseason play Aug. 22 against the Commanders.

Lions' Jared Goff: Won't play preseason opener

Head coach Dan Campbell told reporters Sunday that Jared Goff and other key starters will not play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Bengals, Justin Rogers of DetroitFootball.net reports.Although Goff won't see action Thursday, he could see some action in the Detroit Lions' second exhibition game against the Commanders on Saturday, Aug. 22. With Teddy Bridgewater stepping away from the team Sunday, Luke Altmyer is the only other quarterback on the 90-man roster, so the Lions will work out some veteran QBs to compete for the backup job behind Goff, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.

Lions' Jared Goff: Agrees to restructure

Jared Goff has agreed to terms on a contract restructure that frees up $32 million in salary cap room for the Detroit Lions, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.Goff's restructure is among moves being made by Detroit to free up salary cap for free agency, including the team's decision to trade David Montgomery to the Texans and ink Isiah Pacheco to a team-friendly deal. As Goff prepares to contend in a tough NFC North division in 2026, one challenge he will have to adapt to is a revamped O-line that has already replaced LT Taylor Decker and C Graham Glasgow with new signees Larry Borom and Cade Mays. Those adaptations will be eased by Goff's elite returning pass-catching corps, led by wideouts Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa, plus Jahmyr Gibbs out of the backfield. It will also be to Goff's benefit to have TE Sam LaPorta (back) retake the field in advance of training camp.

Lions' Jared Goff: Carves up Bears in finale

Jared Goff completed 27 of 42 passes for 331 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Detroit Lions' 19-16 win over the Bears on Sunday.Goff effectively led a relatively pass-heavy attack throughout the afternoon, focusing the majority of his attention -- with great efficacy -- on Amon-Ra St. Brown, who ended up on the receiving end of 11 of his completions for 139 yards. Goff also hit Jahmyr Gibbs for his one touchdown pass from 15 yards out with under five minutes remaining in the first half, and he managed to lead the Lions to a winning record in an otherwise disappointing, non-playoff season. Goff put together another highly fantasy-friendly regular season, completing 68.0 percent of his passes for 4,564 yards and a 34:8 TD:INT while adding 19 rush attempts for 45 yards and playing all 17 games for the fourth consecutive campaign.

Lions' Jared Goff: Gifts Vikings five TOs on Christmas

Jared Goff completed 18 of 29 pass attempts for 197 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Thursday's 23-10 loss to the Vikings. He also rushed three times for two yards and fumbled three times, losing all three.Goff connected with Isaac TeSlaa for a four-yard touchdown pass on fourth down to cap a 19-play, 80-yard drive with 1:05 remaining before halftime. That touchdown got the Detroit Lions on the board and answered a first-quarter Vikings touchdown that came five plays after a Goff fumble. Minnesota reclaimed the lead with a pair of field goals, which were set up by his two third-quarter interceptions on consecutive pass attempts. Goff fumbled two more times in the fourth quarter, as he accounted for five of Detroit's six turnovers. The Lions were eliminated from playoff contention with Thursday's loss, but Goff will have an opportunity to finish the regular season on a less sour note in a Week 18 trip to Chicago.

Lions' Jared Goff: Three touchdowns against Pittsburgh

Jared Goff completed 34 of 54 passes for 364 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in Sunday's 29-24 loss to the Steelers. He added one rush for minus-1 yard.Goff took to the air a season-high 54 times as the Detroit Lions played down by two scores for much of the fourth quarter. He was efficient throughout the contest, and he picked up 199 yards and touchdowns of 27 and four yards across the team's final three drives of the game. While it hasn't led to consistent victories, Goff has topped 300 passing yards in three straight games while also throwing seven touchdowns in that span.

Lions' Jared Goff: Strong play in loss to former club

Jared Goff completed 25 of 41 pass attempts for 338 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 41-34 loss to the Rams.Matthew Stafford bested Goff in a battle of quarterbacks who were traded for each other back in 2021. The latter actually finished with the superior fantasy score after Goff set a new season high in passing yards. It was the fourth time this season that the Cal product threw for three touchdowns with no interceptions, resulting in a sparkling 5.8 TD/INT through 14 starts. Goff will look to continue his strong fantasy campaign when the Detroit Lions host the Steelers next Sunday.
