Jonathan Krause: Released from practice squad Wednesday
Jonathan Krause was released from the Bucs practice squad Wednesday, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports. The 24-year-old had been brought back to the pratice squad back on Sept. 28, but was jettisoned Wednesday to make room for the return of Russell Hansbrough and Josh Keyes to the unit. Krause has shown some promise at both receiver and returner, so a potential return later in the season isn't out of the question.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Waived by Bucs on Friday
Jonathan Krause will not make the Bucs' 53-man roster, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 24-year-old receiver certainly had his moments in camp and early in preseason, but ultimately didn't do enough to beat out Evan Spencer and special-teams ace Russell Shepard for the final two spots on the receiver depth chart. Krause was also given a long look at punt returner and his ability to contribute at that position, along with solid measurables, should afford him additional opportunities around the league.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Lackluster showing in preseason finale
Jonathan Krause secured one of four targets for 17 yards in Wednesday's 20-13 preseason loss to the Redskins. The third-year receiver didn't exactly have the best weather within which to make a final pitch for a roster spot and was only able to secure a quarter of his targets in the sloppy conditions. Krause was impressive early in camp and also turned a two-catch, 50-yard game against the Jaguars in the second week of preseason. That contest was also the last in which Krause received an opportunity in the punt return rotation, gaining 18 yards on his sole runback. Due to fellow wideout Bernard Reedy receiving the bulk of returner reps over the last two weeks, Krause has been primarily relegated to trying to work his way onto the final roster through his receiving exploits, and didn't quite deliver in that capacity Wednesday.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Prospects not looking good heading into preseason finale
Jonathan Krause's chances to claim one of the Bucs' final receiver spots appear dim heading into the preseason finale versus Washington, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The 24-year-old had impressed early in camp and amassed three catches for 56 yards over the first two exhibition games, but his participation was notably reduced in last Friday's victory over the Browns. Krause received only nine snaps in that contest and was not targeted, while also being shut out of the punt return rotation. He figures to have some extended opportunity to showcase his skills in Wednesday night's finale versus the Redskins with the top receiving trio of Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson and Adam Humphries expected to play sparingly, if at all.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Leads all receivers in yardage in Saturday preseason victory
Jonathan Krause secured two of his three targets for 50 yards in Saturday's 27-21 preseason victory over the Jaguars. He also gained 18 yards on his sole punt return. The third-year receiver followed up a string of impressive training camp practices with an impressive showing, including a pretty 41-yard connection with third-string QB Ryan Griffin late in the fourth quarter. Krause has opened some eyes in the battle for a backup receiver spot over the first three weeks of camp, while also making a strong case for the open punt return job. His fate, like that of fellow competitors for a spot on the crowded wide receiver depth chart, appears destined to be decided over the final two preseason contests.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Continues to put in work at returner
Jonathan Krause, who's been impressive as a receiver over the first several practices of camp, continues to also put in time on returns, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.Special teams could well be the ticket to a roster spot for Krause, so his progress in this area will be something to monitor. The third-year receiver has some punt-return pedigree from his college days at Vanderbilt, having logged 63 runbacks, including two touchdowns, during his college career.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Continues to impress Friday
Jonathan Krause continued his impressive first week of training camp Friday, grabbing two touchdowns in "low" red zone work, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.Apparently Krause doesn't quite realize he was just grabbed off the waiver wire right before the start of camp and is supposed to serve as just another "body", as he's been catching the coaching staff's eye consistently throughout the first several practices. He was back at it Friday, beating safety Major Wright with a nifty move to the left corner of the end zone on one catch, while making a beauty of a leaping grab on a square-in versus 2016 first-round pick Vernon Hargreaves on a second visit to the end zone. Although Adam Humphries has already won the third receiver job according to head coach Dirk Koetter, Krause's play is certainly earning him early consideration for a roster spot.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Stands out in Monday practice
Jonathan Krause made an impressive leaping grab in Monday's practice and also worked on fielding punts, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.Running what appeared to be a square-in from the left side of the formation, Krause went to full horizontal extension to bring in the pass, one of several impressive plays he's made over the early going of training camp. Just signed by the Bucs on July 24, the third-year receiver has a chance to lay claim to a roster spot if he can continue flashing on offense and show some wiggle on punt returns. Krause has a favorable college track record in the latter, having logged 63 runbacks, including two touchdowns, while at Vanderbilt.

Buccaneers' Jonathan Krause: Special-teams pedigree could help land roster spot
Jonathan Krause, who was signed by the Bucs on Sunday, could work his way onto the roster through his special-teams acumen, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The third-year receiver joins a crowded depth chart and does so right before camp, both factors which would typically make him a considerable long shot to garner a roster spot. However, with the Bucs also holding open auditions this season for the punt returner job, Krause could conceivably work his way onto the final 53 by locking down that role. He brings some college pedigree in that area, having logged 63 punt returns for Vanderbilt, two of them for touchdowns. He also has plenty to offer from scrimmage, notching 11 receptions for 89 yards in the preseason with the Patriots last summer (while earning strong praise from head coach Bill Belichick), scoring a pair of touchdowns on end-arounds in his college career, and hauling in 42 passes for 714 yards and three scores in his senior season back in 2013. The speedster was on the Eagles' 53-man roster for the final six weeks of last season as well and dressed twice, logging two catches for 11 yards on 18 snaps.
