Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: No action in Week 7
Fernando Mendoza did not appear in Sunday's 35-21 loss to the Rams.Mendoza didn't see any action for the second straight week after he got his toes wet in the team's Week 5 loss to New England. With the Las Vegas Raiders falling to 3-4 with the loss in Week 7, current starting quarterback Kirk Cousins may not remain in that role for much longer. Las Vegas will travel to face the Jets in Week 8 before a trio of tough matchups against the 49ers, Seahawks and Broncos in the next three weeks.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Back to spectator mode for Week 6
Fernando Mendoza did not play a single snap during the Las Vegas Raiders' 33-30 loss to the Bills on Sunday.Mendoza got his first taste of NFL action during the Raiders' final offensive drive in their Week 5 blowout loss to the Patriots, but the rookie first-overall pick observed Sunday's game from the sidelines. The Raiders have dropped each of their last three games, and if veteran Kirk Cousins cannot right the ship, then head coach Klint Kubiak may turn the keys over the Mendoza over the next few weeks. The Raiders will stay home for Week 7 against the Rams on Oct. 25.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Sees first NFL action in Week 5 loss
Fernando Mendoza completed six of eight passes for 48 yards without a touchdown or turnover in Sunday's 45-17 loss to the Patriots. He added three yards on his only carry. With the game out of hand, Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak elected to give Mendoza his first pro snaps on the team's final drive of the game, and the first overall pick in the 2026 draft acquitted himself well in a low-pressure situation, with his longest completion going for 16 yards to Tre Tucker. Mendoza even led Las Vegas into the red zone, but he came up just short on a fourth-and-4 from New England's 14-yard line as he scrambled for the sticks. It was only a matter of time until Mendoza replaced Kirk Cousins under center on a permanent basis, but a switch may not be imminent with the veteran QB having led the team to a 3-2 record. Mendoza has at least given his coach some early confidence that he'll be ready when the time comes.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Plays spectator in Week 4 loss
Fernando Mendoza did not see the field for the Las Vegas Raiders' 30-27 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.Mendoza spent all of Sunday's game on the sidelines while Kirk Cousins took every snap under center, with the veteran quarterback completing 31 of 52 passes for 365 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Even with the loss, the Raiders are off to a 3-1 start to the season, so Mendoza is unlikely to see playing time unless Cousins were to miss time or Las Vegas' 2026 campaign takes a turn for the worse.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Yet to take NFL regular-season snap
Fernando Mendoza did not play in the Las Vegas Raiders' 35-27 Week 3 win over the Saints.Kirk Cousins again took every snap under center for Las Vegas in the high-scoring victory. There was some thought before the start of the season that Mendoza could eventually work his way into the starting role if Cousins and/or the team struggled early, but instead Las Vegas is 3-0 and Cousins is tied for the NFL lead with nine touchdown passes. Mendoza is likely continue to learn on the sidelines barring an injury to Cousins or a dramatic downturn to the Raiders' success.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Idle again Week 2
Fernando Mendoza did not play a single snap during the Las Vegas Raiders' 26-14 win over the Chargers on Sunday. As expected, Mendoza observed Sunday's win from the sidelines as Kirk Cousins led the offense, with the veteran quarterback competing 19 of 29 passes for 253 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Cousins has led the Raiders to a 2-0 start and should remain as the starter moving forward, but Mendoza could take over under center if the team's winning ways don't last.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Observes Week 1 from sidelines
Fernando Mendoza did not see the field during the Las Vegas Raiders' 27-13 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.Kirk Cousins was named the Raiders' starter in early September, and the veteran quarterback commanded the offense sufficiently in Sunday's win, completing 21 of 30 targets for 160 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Mendoza is firmly entrenched as the backup, though the rookie first-overall pick could take over as the Raiders' starter later this season if Cousins' production dips.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Opening season as QB2
With coach Klint Kubiak naming Kirk Cousins the Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback Wednesday, Fernando Mendoza will open the season as the backup, Sam Warren of The Athletic reports.Mendoza was in the competition all offseason, but it was going to take some otherworldly play to knock Cousins out of the top spot on the depth chart. While Cousins completed 13 of 17 passes for 101 yards and one touchdown across 30 preseason snaps, Mendoza struggled some, completing just 26 of 46 passes for 250 yards, one touchdown and a pair of interceptions during exhibition action. Cousins is likely to have a decently long leash to begin the season, but Mendoza remains a good bet to make starts as a rookie.

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Still in QB competition
Fernando Mendoza remains in the mix for the Las Vegas Raiders' starting quarterback job along with veteran Kirk Cousins, Vinny Bonsignore of the California Post reports. The first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Mendoza opened training camp as the No. 2 QB and has remained there through the preseason, but he has earned some reps with the first-team offense along the way in both practices and exhibitions. He wrapped up his three preseason contests having completed 25 of 45 passes for 240 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Until coach Klint Kubiak makes a decision, ther potential exists for Mendoza to be under center for Las Vegas in Week 1 versus the Dolphins

Raiders' Fernando Mendoza: Kubiak declines to name Week 1 starter
Las Vegas Raiders coach Klint Kubiak indicated Thursday that he is not yet ready to name a starting quarterback (between Kirk Cousins and Fernando Mendoza) ahead of Week 1, Ryan McFadden of ESPN reports. On that subject, Kubiak noted "we got another week. I don't want anyone to be comfortable in their job...it should always be that way for all positions. So, let's keep going." To this point, the signs have been pointing to Cousins opening the regular season as the starter, and he was among his team's key players who watched Thursday's preseason game against the Texans from the sidelines. Meanwhile, Mendoza played the entire first half of the contest, completing eight of 15 passes for 86 yards and an interception on five drives. It remains to be seen when Kubiak will announce the Raiders' starting signal-caller, but given where Mendoza was drafted, it's assumed that the Indiana product will rise to the top of the Raiders' depth chart eventually, though that ascent seems likely to follow a stint as Cousins' understudy.
