Broncos' Zach Wilson: Shines in preseason finale
Zach Wilson completed 16 of 25 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-12 preseason win over the Cardinals. He added 22 rushing yards and a TD on two carries.Jarrett Stidham led the offense for Denver's first possession and got the team into the end zone, but Wilson played the rest of the way and had plenty of success, finding Nate Adkins for a one-yard score in the second quarter and Brandon Johnson for a 46-yard TD strike in the fourth. Wilson also added a one-yard touchdown plunge of his own just before halftime. Broncos' Zach Wilson: Struggles in spring practices
Zach Wilson failed to impress at spring practices, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic.Kosmider suggests Wilson seemed to have more trouble than rookie Bo Nix with the adjustment to coach Sean Payton's offense. While Wilson still has time to make an impression during training camp and the preseason, it sounds like he's currently positioned to be the No. 3 QB or even released. The Denver Broncos acquired him in April for a late-round pick swap, trading down from No. 203 to 256 while taking on only half of Wilson's $5.5 million salary from the Jets.

Broncos' Zach Wilson: Gets fifth-year option declined
The Denver Broncos informed Zach Wilson on Wednesday that they won't exercise his fifth-year team option for 2025, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.Wilson, whom the Jets took with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, joined the Broncos in a trade shortly before April's draft. With Denver not in line to pick up his fifth-year option -- which would have been for a guaranteed $22.4 million -- the 24 year-old will become a free agent next March. For now, Wilson is slated to compete with first-round rookie Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham -- who started Denver's final two games of the 2023 regular season -- for the Week 1 starting assignment. While Nix is presumably viewed as the franchise's long-term answer at quarterback, in the short term, slotting at the position is up for grabs in advance of training camp.

They'll also hold some of Wilson's salary, with the 24-year-old scheduled for $5.45 million in guaranteed compensation for the final year of his rookie contract.
