Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Nabs one catch in Week 3 victory
Daniel Bellinger caught his only target for 17 yards against Cleveland in Sunday's 21-15 win.Bellinger's lone target and reception went for 17 yards early in the third quarter. While he did log a season-high 26 offensive snaps, that number was well behind the 58 offensive snaps accumulated by No. 1 tight end Theo Johnson. Overall, Bellinger has just two catches (both of which he has caught for 20 total yards) through three weeks, making him a non-factor in fantasy.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Clear backup in Week 1
Daniel Bellinger caught his only target for three yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings.Bellinger was listed as New York's No. 1 tight end on the team's first unofficial depth chart during the preseason and split first-team reps with rookie Theo Johnson throughout training camp, but he was clearly behind Johnson in the pecking order Sunday. While Bellinger logged just 16 offensive snaps (23 percent of the team's total), Johnson tallied 61 (86 percent), and even Chris Manhertz (20 offensive snaps) was on the field more often than Bellinger. Manhertz played primarily in two-TE sets and does most of his work as a blocker, so he's not a threat to Bellinger's playing time, but for the time being it appears that the New York Giants prefer Johnson as the starter over Bellinger at the position.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: One catch in preseason opener
Daniel Bellinger caught one of two targets for seven yards in Thursday's 14-3 preseason win over the Lions.Bellinger wasn't heavily involved but neither was rookie fourth-round pick Theo Johnson, who wasn't targeted Thursday. Tyree Jackson was the New York Giants' most productive tight end Thursday with two catches for 34 yards, but Bellinger and Johnson have been splitting first-team reps in practice and remain on track to lead the position come the regular season. New York's next preseason game will be in Houston next Saturday.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Listed first on initial depth chart
Daniel Bellinger is listed as the No. 1 tight end on the New York Giants' first unofficial depth chart, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports. With Darren Waller deciding to retire in the offseason, New York's starting tight end role is up for grabs. It makes sense for Bellinger to work in that capacity given that he was the starter during his rookie campaign before Waller was brought into the fold, but -- despite drawing positive reviews from the team's coaching staff -- he was only modestly productive with 30 receptions for 268 yards and two touchdowns over 12 regular-season games. The Giants drafted Theo Johnson in the fourth round of April's NFL Draft with Waller's then-potential retirement in mind, and he's worked with the first-team offense at times during training camp, so he appears to be the biggest threat to Bellinger attaining the starting role. However, on the the team's initial depth chart, Johnson is listed as fourth at tight end behind Bellinger, Lawrence Cager and Chris Manhertz.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Fine for start of camp
Daniel Bellinger (undisclosed) has been cleared to practice at the start of New York Giants training camp this week, Dan Salomone of the team's official website reports.Bellinger missed some work during the spring with an undisclosed injury, but he's ready to roll for the start of training camp. Following the retirement of Darren Waller earlier this summer, Bellinger is penciled in atop the depth chart at tight end for the G-Men. Bellinger has 55 catches for 523 yards and two touchdowns through two NFL seasons and is unlikely to factor into the TE1 fantasy discussion after going scoreless on 25 grabs last year. Rookie Theo Johnson (hip, PUP) will also be in the mix at the position for New York.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Dealing with minor injury
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Daniel Bellinger has been limited during spring practices due to an undisclosed injury, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.Bellinger's outlook for 2024 improved earlier this week after incumbent starter Darren Waller announced his retirement Monday, leaving Bellinger as the tentative No. 1 option on the depth chart at tight end. The Giants also have rookie fourth-round pick Theo Johnson as a potential receiving threat at the position, but Bellinger should handle most of the first-team reps at the start of training camp. Daboll downplayed the injury Wednesday, so he seemingly expects Bellinger to be ready to go for camp.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Competing with rookie to start
Daniel Bellinger and rookie Theo Johnson will compete to be the New York Giants' top tight end after Darren Waller decided to retire, Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.Bellinger and Johnson both are fourth-round picks with impressive physical specs and less impressive college production. Bellinger has a huge advantage in terms of NFL experience, having played 1,262 snaps on offense through two seasons, including 12 instances taking more than 80 percent of snaps in a game (mostly games that Waller missed). The problem is that Bellinger hasn't been much of a receiving threat even with 4.63 speed, catching 55 passes for 523 yards and two touchdowns while drawing just 63 targets on 512 routes (12.3 percent target rate). The sky-high catch rate (87.3 percent) shows that Bellinger has held his own as a dump-off target, but he hasn't done much else, with 43 being his single-game high for yardage and just 36.4 percent of his career receptions going for first downs. Both Bellinger and Johnson are taller, heavier and faster than the average NFL tight end, but it isn't clear either has the pass-catching skill to make a dent in fantasy.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Modest numbers as No. 2 tight end
Daniel Bellinger didn't draw a target across 53 snaps on offense in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Eagles.Bellinger finished the regular season with 25 catches on 28 targets for 255 yards and no touchdowns over 17 contests. From a production standpoint, Bellinger was more or less in line with his numbers from his 2022 rookie campaign, when he posted 30 catches for 268 yards and a pair of scores. However, the tight end played in five more contests this season, and he took a step back on the depth chart after New York acquired Darren Waller in the offseason. The New York Giants have expressed an affinity for Bellinger despite the Waller addition, but with the latter under contract through 2026, it's difficult to envision a scenario in which Bellinger's role on offense grows substantially in the near future. Bellinger has two years remaining on his rookie deal.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Posts decent numbers again Week 17
Daniel Bellinger finished Sunday's loss to the Rams with four catches on four targets for 39 yards.Darren Waller logged more targets (six), catches (five) and yards (51) than Bellinger, but the latter still had a reasonably productive performance. Bellinger's longest catch went for 18 yards, and he also had a 14-yard reception that he immediately followed with a nine-yard catch on the following play. Waller has undoubtedly been the better fantasy asset when healthy this season, but Bellinger has come on strong even with Waller able to suit up over the past two weeks, putting up an 8-82-0 line on nine targets. The New York Giants have little to play for in their season finale against Philadelphia next weekend, so the team could opt to relax the veteran Waller's workload, which could benefit Bellinger to some extent against a defense that has been middle-of-the-pack against tight ends this season.

Giants' Daniel Bellinger: Outgains Waller in Week 16 loss
Daniel Bellinger finished Monday's loss to the Eagles with four catches on five targets for 43 yards.Primary tight end Darren Waller was healthy for the contest, though he and Bellinger logged an equal number of offensive snaps (40). Bellinger was somewhat surprisingly the more productive pass catcher, finishing second on New York in both receptions (four) and receiving yards (43). The former total was a season high for Bellinger, while the latter tied a season-best mark. Though this was Bellinger's best game of the season, Waller remains the better option for fantasy purposes.
