Lance didn't lead a scoring drive, but he did have completions of 11 and 17 yards to Jalen Reagor to account for the majority of his production. It remains to be seen if Lance or Heinicke will serve as the No. 2 quarterback in Week 1 against Kansas City, though Lance has primarily played well with plenty of opportunity this preseason.

Chargers' Trey Lance: Dealing with hand issue
Trey Lance was spotted wearing a wrap/brace on his right hand at practice Wednesday, Richie Whitt of SI.com reports.Lance sat out the Los Angeles Chargers' team drills Tuesday before being spotted with a wrap/brace on his right hand while the team warmed up for practice Wednesday. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman told reporters that Lance's lack of participation was not about an injury, but instead it was in an effort to get starter Justin Herbert more reps. Lance's status will be worth monitoring ahead of Saturday's preseason matchup with the Rams. To this point in camp, the 25-year-old has impressed, and he's currently in a competition with Taylor Heinicke for the No. 2 QB role in Los Angeles.

Chargers' Trey Lance: Good use of starting opportunity
Trey Lance completed 13 of 20 passes for 120 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding three rushes for eight yards during the Los Angeles Chargers' 34-7 preseason win over the Lions in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game. He also fumbled once but recovered. The oft-maligned 2021 third overall pick of the 49ers is set to get a long look from his third NFL team this summer, and head coach Jim Harbaugh wasted no time getting Lance into extended game action. The strong-armed North Dakota State product put together an encouraging body of work overall and connected with Will Dissly (five yards) and KeAndre Lambert-Smith (15 yards) for his pair of scoring tosses in the first and second quarter, respectively. Lance remained in the game for the first three quarters, leading the Chargers to 27 points overall and also seeing a third potential TD pass of nine yards to Dalevon Campbell overturned via replay late in the third quarter. Lance certainly didn't hurt his case for a roster spot with Thursday's performance, but Taylor Heinicke will likely get his chance to state his claim to hang on to the No. 2 role in coming preseason games.

Chargers' Trey Lance: Will start Hall of Fame Game
Trey Lance will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Lions in the Hall of Fame Game, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. The 25-year-old kicked off training camp as Los Angeles' third-string quarterback behind Justin Herbert and Taylor Heinicke, but he'll get a chance to start the team's preseason opener. Undrafted rookie DJ Uiagalelei will likely work as Lance's backup. Almost all the Los Angeles Chargers' key starters on both sides of the ball figure to be held out of action Thursday, but Lance could get a chance to work with a handful of intriguing pass catchers such as 2025 fifth-round wideout KeAndre Lambert-Smith, 2024 seventh-round receiver Brenden Rice and 2025 fifth-round tight end Oronde Gadsden. Lance's rushing abilities also make him a candidate to rack up production even if his passing skills don't impress.

Cowboys' Trey Lance: Likely moving on from Dallas
Dallas Cowboys COO Stephen Jones said Trey Lance is "probably going to be looking for something different" this offseason, David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reports.Lance was the Cowboys' third-string quarterback the past two seasons, after they traded a fourth-round pick for him shortly before the start of the 2023 campaign. He played decent in his one start -- a 23-19 loss to Washington in Week 18 of this past season -- but it sounds like the Cowboys would rather draft a new quarterback to develop behind starter Dak Prescott. Both Lance and second-stringer Cooper Rush are scheduled for free agency this spring, with Jones already suggesting that Rush's solid work as a backup may have priced him out of the Cowboys' range.

Cowboys' Trey Lance: No TDs or turnovers in spot start
Trey Lance completed 20 of 34 passes for 244 yards while rushing six times for 26 yards in Sunday's 23-19 loss to the Commanders.Making his first start since Week 2 of the 2022 season with the 49ers, Lance came out hot, producing back-to-back completions over 30 yards to Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin to set up a field goal on the first drive. Lance continued to move the offense well and didn't turn the ball over, but the Dallas Cowboys frequently stalled in scoring range, settling for four field goals prior to a two-yard Rico Dowdle rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. The third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is set to become a free agent in the offseason, and it's unclear if Dallas will make an effort to retain him.
