Commanders' Mike Sainristil: Locking down slot role
Coach Dan Quinn said Tuesday that Mike Sainristil is settling in as the Washington Commanders' top slot cornerback, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.It's not exactly a surprise after Washington drafted the 5-foot-10, 182-pound cornerback with the 50th overall pick this spring. Sainristil was arguably the best slot corner in all of college football his final two seasons, recording 102 tackles (10.5 TFLs) and seven interceptions for dominant Michigan defenses. His 4.47 40 time and 40-inch vertical hint at long-term potential to take perimeter snaps in the base defense, but he may be limited to a pure slot role for now under new Commanders coach Dan Quinn.

The Washington Commanders selected Mike Sainristil in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 50th overall.Sainristil might be limited to the slot at just 5-foot-10, 182 pounds, but the Michigan standout should excel there at least. He was a standout presence in a suffocating Wolverines defense that carried Michigan to its National Title victory in 2023, and his workout numbers indicate the ability to cover ground effectively (4.47-second 40-yard dash, 40-inch vertical, 131-inch broad jump). Sainristil should immediately take over the slot position for Washington and might even have an outside chance of winning a starting role.
