Dolphins' Patrick Paul: Replacing Armstead at LT
Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that Patrick Paul "will be our starter at left tackle" following the retirement of Terron Armstead, Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald reports.However, Grier also added that Paul will get "first crack" at the starting left tackle gig, suggesting that the team will hold a competition for the role during training camp. A 2024 second-round pick, Paul suited up for 17 regular-season games with Miami as a rookie, but looked less than ready for full-time duty in his three starts. At 6-foot-7, 231-pounds, he boasts all the physical tools and athleticism necessary to develop into a high-end option, and offensive line coach Butch Berry was modestly successful in helping Austin Jackson (knee) improve after his disastrous rookie season in 2020. Grier mentioned Larry Borom as a candidate to compete with Paul when training camp commences.

The Miami Dolphins selected Patrick Paul in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 55th overall.Miami's offensive line graded as mediocre at best in 2023 and needed an upgrade via the draft. Paul, despite playing for five years at Houston, is still rounding into his final form. He has the attributes that front offices covet, checking in at 6-foot-8, 331 pounds with 36-inch arms and profiling as a fluid athlete. He exclusively played left tackle in college, but with Terron Armstead holding down that side, Paul will compete with Austin Jackson for the right tackle job in all likelihood.
